'Transmission from Dex - The Creatures of Amber Drop (Primitive Kingdom)'

Hello, everyone! Dex here! It’s been a while since our last transmission, and for that I apologize. I just had some horrible encounters with ravenous animals who were about to rip off my thorax! Living in this Primitive Kingdom may be beautifully awe-inspiring, but it’s dangerous if you’re not careful! I learned that the hard way, unfortunately. You’d think I’d go back in time prepared for animal attacks, but sadly I came pretty empty-handed. But more on that later!

So, my journey was of course to discover the first civilization in Primondia the moment it was created! You may now know it as the village of Historic Grenatton, where parents take their kids for an “educational” trip about history but who really go there for the artisan shops and restaurants. Fun fact: the restaurant that’s there now, Lauren’s, is actually named after the human who discovered cooking, in that very location! I am so excited to meet her firsthand! But before all of that touristy mumbo-jumbo came to be, the village of Grenatton was rich with the culture, language, and society that was just starting to develop at that time. Carved into the base of a cliff in the foothills of Amber Drop, Grenatton bore a majestic aura to it that you only see in fantasy stories.

Well, my plan to get there was, well let’s just say it was derailed. Just my luck, I happened to arrive just a little bit before they invented maps, so needless to say I got lost pretty easily, and my wings were exhausted! I was meandering all around the picturesque golden-orange cliffs of Amber Drop, autumn leaves dropping on my face every which way, when I got so tired, I had to settle down for a bit. So I found a nice little perch on what seemed to be the peak of Amber Drop Cliffs. And gosh it was beautiful. I could see all of Savare from there. It was gusty and a little bit foggy up there, but I could still make out the vast sprawling Sunstone Meadows and the bright and vivid Obsideral Ridge in the center.

Look at this vicious thing! Don’t get too close to a Sharcu or you’ll regret it.

I kept on flying around Amber Drop Cliffs, deciding to take my sweet time while I looked for Grenatton. Not a good idea in retrospect, since I had completely forgotten how hostile and territorial some of the animals here can be. When I went to rest on a slanted rock in the sun, I heard some really irritated growling, and… a strange tugging on my wings. I jetted around and saw a ferocious Sharcu nibbling on me! Now Sharcus in primitive times were a lot more hostile than how they are now, which is saying a lot! Their shells were spiked and thorned all over, so I feared that a single move would rip my exoskeleton to shreds! I tried to fly away before it was too late, but of course… it was too late. Now I angered the whole pack, and a bunch of spiky, spiny Sharcus were on my tail. I would have stung them if their shells weren’t so hard! And I was so tired from flying I couldn’t even get the high-ground advantage. So I threw a rock at them to create a distraction and ran for it!

To the naked eye, Moldogs are almost indistinguishable from chunks of earth.

Luckily, I fled the Sharcus’ den and found a nice solid chunk of ground to land on for the time being. I was so exhausted, I needed to rest my eyes for just a moment. But as I closed my eyes… what I was sitting on opened its eyes! Oh, of all the bad luck in the world, I landed on a Moldog, for crying out loud! These things are supposed to use the earth surrounding it as a hard cloak to camouflage dumber prey! I guess it worked on me too. I figured there was no way I was gonna get to Grenatton alive at this rate. It was almost nightfall, and without sunlight, a Vesp like me is useless! So I creeped into this abandoned cave for the night, hoping there would be no other scares like that.

Long story short, when you travel back in time, bring some defenses with you. Or at least a decent rock.

More on my travels soon. Until then, I’ll see you on the flip side!
