Ether is a series that takes place in an organization called DevCore, which resides in people's brains to control their physical and mental development.

Development

Inspiration and Creation

Around the early 2020s, Adam DeVoix had a dream about the Pajama Sam point-and-click games and was inspired to come up with his own point-and-click puzzle game similar to it, but he couldn't figure out what to make it about. He went through several ideas and iterations but never committed fully to any one of them until December 2025, when he started writing and drawing ideas for characters and scenarios. These older ideas all shared the same theme of dreams and the mind (taking on prototype names like Somnomnia or Somnus Theater). Eventually, Adam settled on Ether as a title, as a reference to the main character Ether, whose name has a deeper etymology in and of itself. In December 2025, Adam had drafted many ideas of characters and scenarios that would play out like those old Pajama Sam games, including looking for key characters who went missing (these being the other six DevCore Foremen). Adam wanted to stick with the theme of the mind, creativity, and development, and decided to add some "imaginary friends" as characters, which later inspired him to take some of his earliest and first characters ever made, a collection of random monsters and villains, who he thought would be perfect characters in the Ether series. Since then, Adam has also considered Ether as the outlet to keep those really old characters alive, similar to how the Snallbourg series was designed to keep his miscellaneous human characters from falling into obscurity.

Etymology

Ether is named after Ether, the main character of the series.
