Ellie Lorem (she/they) is a moody worker in charge of the Processing Plant in DevCore.

History and origin

Ellie Lorem is one of the seven main foremen of DevCore, the organization in people's minds that control their growth and development. Lorem is charge of language development, including the reception and expression of written an spoken language.

Ellie Lorem spends most of her days in the factory at the Processing Plant, taking in words and messages and interpreting. Lorem doesn't trust most of their workers in the plant, so often resorts to doing all the work themself--not because they want to but because they feel the need to. In the events of Ether, Lorem discovers one of many "brainrots," which, depending on the randomized path in the story, could be doomscrolling on her phone, watching TV, or lounging in bed.

General description

Like every DevCore Foreman, Ellie Lorem has a lightbulb for a head. Lorem's light color is orange, and their lightbulb is thin on the bottom and wide on top, with the bottom part of their lightbulb resembling a scarf.

Traits and abilities

Personality

Ellie Lorem is easily irritable when they don't get their way. Lorem prefers to keep to herself and do things independently without having to rely on other people to help. This can come as a benefit and as a detriment depending on the circumstance. When Lorem gets overwhelmed with work, they often shut down (quite literally, in the case of their lightbulb head) and need time to recharge (again, quite literally).

When Lorem is in the right headspace, she can be extremely intelligent and has an enormous vocabulary. They love to describe things that mean a lot to them in extreme detail, pointing out everything they can observe and interpret about it. However, Lorem is also brutally honest, which can be off-putting, especially for someone as focused on kindness as Mama Erika.

Relationships

Ellie Lorem has trouble getting along with some of her other coworkers and co-foremen in DevCore, especially Coach Karina and Mama Erika, who she believes are too energetic for her taste. Lorem is great friends with Ether and Professor Camper, and will often be found in Camper's library, looking through old memories and describing them with more vivid detail. Lorem also loves watching Ether's plays and helping design sets and write scripts.

Etymology

Ellie is slightly based off of the word Engli*sh*, and Lorem is based on lorem ipsum, a common placeholder for texts that have not yet been written.
