History and origin

General description

Traits and abilities

Marion has the unique ability to possess anybody he lays his hands on. These victims are marked by having a paler tone in their body and their clothes, having stitches in random parts of their body, and strings sticking out of their limbs going up, seemingly infinitely to the sky. When these victims are possessed, they have absolutely no control over their own thoughts or actions, nor do they have any memory of what went on during the time of possession. When Marion is grabbing onto the victim, he seemingly merges into the victim as an invisible overlay to where they are. Whatever Marion does during the spell, the victim does as well. Since Marion has to dedicate his left hand to grabbing onto the victim at all times, he refuses to have any victim use their left hand, which can be seen as weakness, given that Marion is lefthanded. The spell is only broken when Marion willingly lets go of the victim---otherwise, his grasp is virtually sealed onto the victim with no way to force it off.

When Marion was a character in the Star Guardians series, he was known for having four arms and four hands: one pair for latching onto his victim and one pair to puppet the victim. However, this was dropped when he became a prominent Sinister Recluse character.

Personality

Marion is eccentric and unhinged, and he has been since his initial conception in Star Guardians. He hides behind this eccentricity by putting on a guise of formality and politeness. His vocal tone and delivery makes him sound polished and trustworthy, but his word choice proves his true inner sadistic tendencies. Marion only cares about pleasing himself and only possesses people because of the amusement and high he gets from it. He is known to manipulate people into letting him possess them by acting trustworthy and friendly.

Etymology

The first name Marion comes from marionnette, a type of puppet controlled by strings attached to their limbs. The last name Marley has no intended etymology besides to have an alliteration.

During the conception of Star Guardians: The Spirit of Corona Plank in 2016, there was a boss character named Marley, who initially had no relation to Marion Marley or the early version of him named Marionnette. Somewhere along the lines, Adam decided to combine the two characters Marionnette and Marley as being the same character. It was around that time that the full name of the character, Marion Marley, came to be and stuck from then on.
