Plainwood is the setting of Sinister Recluse: The Statue on Riverside. It is a small village of no more than 1200 inhabitants. It spans around areas of a mountain called Monnelley on an island in between the border of the States and Canada.
History
Government
Plainwood grew up on a distrust of their citizens and feared the idea of having one person in charge of everyone else. This started when the first settlers of Plainwood were arguing about who should lead the rest of Plainwood, and no one could come to a consensus, as their arguments each had their own sound points.
From this, the founders of Plainwood decided to compromise everyone's arguments and put one person in charge of the one thing they brought to the table. This started the Plainwoodian tradition of a mayoral triumvirate.
No more than three people have ever been in charge of Plainwood at the same time. During the events of The Statue on Riverside, there are three Mayoral Heads, as they're called.
- Mayoral Head of Public Safety and Relations, Matt Kennett
- Mayoral Head of Public Works and Facilities, Archie West
- Mayoral Head of Public Merit and Census, Cliffe Rhubis

Etymology
Although the simple etymological explanation for Plainwood is the words plain (to mean normal, as an ironic descriptor) and wood (a typical suffix for towns), the true origin of the name goes back much further. When Adam DeVoix was playing a game of Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, he came across an area that was called the "Lake-Plain Border," as a reference to two areas in the game: Blubble Lake and Bumpsy Plains. As he travelled further in the game, he then found himself in an area that bordered to other locations: Bumpsy Plains and Dimble Wood, so he called it the Plain-Wood Border. Struck by how that name sounded, he decided to use "Plainwood" as the name for a simple town. Interestingly, the name "Plainwood" was neither first used in Sinister Recluse nor was it the first name given to the setting of Sinister Recluse. The first time Adam used the name "Plainwood" in a project was in Greedbag Heist (the precursor to Primitive Kingdom (series)), where it was used for a small introductory village that later became known as "Palletton" and ultimately "Grenatton." The Sinister Recluse village had been known as "Pine Creek" before it became known as Plainwood.
