Graham "Whoozitt" Hooderly (he/him) is a calm and confused old man who was the chancellor of the Mertzen Region in the Star Guardians series up until The Spirit of Corona Plank, where he was succeeded by Matt Dowty.

History and origin

In the Star Guardians series, Hooderly was the chancellor of the Mertzen Region. He welcomed P1 and P2 in the first installment and was absent until The Seven Sources, where he made an appearance in the opening scene.

General description

Personality

Hooderly is a calm man who likes to let things take its course naturally. Of course, when it comes to more pressing matters that he can't ignore, he tends to withdraw and call Plainsworth and Percy Rockbell to sort it out, since they have much more experience in saving worlds than him. Many Mertzenians dismissed him as useless and confused, which granted him the nickname "Chancellor Whoozitt" as a jab at his ignorance and unawareness.

Relationships

Hooderly has a strong fondness of Plainsworth and Percy, as he considers them his last (and first) line of defense in times of emergency. He is also best friends with the spirit of the Guardian Johannes Mertzen.

Development

Inspiration and Creation

Interestingly, Graham Hooderly was not initially designed for the first installment of Star Guardians and didn't even make an appearance in the first installment until at least a decade after its original conception. Hooderly's first chronological appearance and design was around 2012 in The Seven Sources, when he was simply designed as the character who ran the Mertzen Region. Since then, he didn't have much bearing on the plot of any Star Guardians installment. It wasn't until The Spirit of Corona Plank, when Adam added an election subplot to remove Hooderly and add a more involved chancellor, Matt Dowty, who would have more impact on future Star Guardians plots. When this article was written in August 2026, the details about Hooderly's confusion, ignorance, and inabilities were a direct reference to how Adam didn't really give him a lot of time to shine in the drafting of the original official Star Guardians canon between 2012 and 2018.

Design

Etymology

The name "Whoozitt," despite what the above article says in General Description, actually was the first name given to this character: Chancellor Whoozitt (what the above article says is a reference to this character's original name). The name Whoozitt was chosen as a stereotypical phrase from elders, particularly as a reference to the character Old Man Watchitt from the game Super Paper Mario. The name Hooderly was later chosen in the early 2020s when Adam was transitioning from Star Guardians to Primitive Kingdom as a reference to the original name but with a more realistic-sounding name. Graham was chosen as an old, crumbly sounding name.
