The Spirit of Corona Plank is a game for the Wii U and is the ninth installment of the Star Guardians series. The game keeps the turn-based RPG style and adds a few new mechanics such as playable songs for the musical partner. The game consists of 12 chapters, a prologue, one small chapter, and one bonus chapter. It also includes secondary players, which are Cecil and Neo and secondary worlds, which is the Spirit World. This is also the first game in the series witch voice acting. The option of turning it on and off can be used any time during the game through the title screen or short menu.
Controls
Both
By pressing A, you can jump. Jumping allows you to cross gaps and raised platforms. Boots are unlocked by default. Pressing + or – opens the notebook. Pressing 2/L opens the short menu where you can choose to save, save and quit, activate voice acring, or continue. Pressing C/ZR as Plainsworth or Cecil allows you to activate your partners. You can control these partners as you would a regular player. Pressing A as a partner makes them jump, pressing B activates their primary use, and pressing Z/ZR uses their secondary use if they have one. Pressing C/ZR as Percy or Neo allows you to study areas or people. Either player could also press 1/R to swap from primary to secondary players if four players are in the overworld at once.
Rockbells
Pressing B allows you to hammer, which can break rocks that are below you. Pressing B in mid-jump allows you to ground pound, which breaks things faster and with more power. The hammer is Jelli Castle. Pressing Z/ZL allows you to punch things in front of you. The gloves are obtained Spyral Bay.
Cecil and Neo
Pressing B allows you to turn into a shadow on the floor. You can move around, but enemies can still touch you. While moving, you can cling to walls and ceilings and pass through certain walls and floors. Pressing Z/ZL allows you to duck and crawl, allowing you to dodge obstacles and pass through tight spaces.
Plot (Spoilers)
Quick little note: The plot here has spoilers to the Great Chapter. If you haven’t read that, please do so.
Prologue: Mother
Here’s a first, we DON’T start out at Plainsworth’s house. He’s actually at Stelleist church. The priest, Gregory, has almost finished. “Courage, War, Balance, Emotion, Wisdom, Spirit, Earth, Life, Dimensions, and Weather. They are the only known Guardians as of now. There may be plenty more, and in fact, may be people you know. So just in case, treat everyone as you would a Guardian and you may just be rewarded. Mass has ended, may the Guardians trust you.” Afterwards, he notices Plainsworth and Percy. “Hey, wait, is that… it is! Plainsworth! Percy! Haven’t seen you two since I was back in Greedbag. How are you doing?” Plainsworth says, “Great, Greg. It’s been hard to come a lot with all of the work we’ve been doing. Also, I noticed you left out ‘Fear’ in those last few words.” “There’s a Guardian of Fear?” “Yeah, we found him back in Burmud. His name is Neo.” “Hmm, cool. Anyway, glad to meet up with you two again so I guess I’ll see you next–” Just then, someone falls out of the window. It’s Cecil, “Oh… hey… look at that. Windows on an… axel. Haven’t seen those for a… while…” Plainsworth remarks, “What are you doing here Wrath? Can’t you see this is a church, a place not for Antighosts?” “Hey, I thought we agreed on calling me ‘Cecil.’” “After what you’ve done, it’s hard to call you anything but Wrath.” “Well, no one asked you. Anyway, I’m here because I wanted to tell Plainsworth something about his house. Also, there’s a strange lady outside walking in.” “My house? What’s going on in my–” He’s interrupted when the strange lady walks in. She looks tough.
The lady comes in, “Gregory, I have found out more info about… you know… Project CP.” Greg responds, “Hmm? Oh, of course, CP. What did you find?” “Guardian of Wisdom. He has something to do with it.” “Okay. Hey, maybe these two can help you. They’ve been
through a lot.” “These two, huh? They look familiar. Sorry, but I work alone.” Just then, Cecil has an awesome idea to get rid of the Rockbells. He says, “Wait, Miss. Could you… uh… save me from these two? They’re… uh… ANTIGHOSTS and they want to possess me!” The lady responds, “Oh, no they won’t. Stand back, kid. This could get ugly.” This triggers a boss battle. Tutorial. You win. The lady says, “Phh, they’re not Antighosts. Antighosts put up more of a fight. You’re all right, kid. Anyway, Greg, I also found out the locations of the Crystal Stars in order to communicate with the Guardian of Spirit.” Greg says, “Great, Serena. Where are they?” Plainsworth interrupts, “Serena? I though you looked familiar. Ever since Dad died, you left us with Nevada and Aunt Snake. Why would you leave us? WHY?!” Serena looks confused, but finally says, “Plainsworth? Is… that you? Well, that’s not important now. And your father isn’t dead. (At least, he’s not going to be). That’s what Project CP is. Corona Plank. We’re trying to revive the spirit of Corona Plank!”
Greg says, “Wow. Family should not be arguing this much. Plainsworth, she’s your mother. Don’t yell. A more appropriate response would be ‘Wow, Mom! I haven’t seen you in a while ago! Where’ve you been?’ but whatever. Anyway, I have an idea. Serena, you really could use extra help. Plainsworth has been on many different adventures and is really up to it.” Plainsworth and Serena both say “There’s no way I’m working with her/him.” Serena says, “But I’ll be glad to work with Percy. I haven’t even met him yet.” Greg says, “Okay, okay. I have an idea. Plainsworth, Percy, you do the adventuring part, and Serena can tell you where to go next.” They both reluctantly agree. Cecil intrudes. “Umm. Can I come? I heard you talking about Guardians and I can help. Opposites are best against each other.” Plainsworth says, “Sigh Fine. I don’t see why not. But DON’T do anything that could get us hurt, killed, or possessed. So, Greg, where do we go first?” Gregory says, “In order to revive your dad, we’ll need to find the 8 Crystal Stars first. The first and closest one is the Elemental Star in Mertzen Town. You should go there first.” After he’s done talking, Neo comes in. He’s been waiting at Plainsworth’s house and wanted to do something when he came back. He says, “Plainsworth, can we go and visit Mr. Wheatley and Langham?” He notices Cecil, “Oh no. What’s HE doing here?” Plainsworth explains to him and the journey of the Crystal Stars. Neo says, “Oh, can I help? There isn’t anyone who knows Guardians more than a Guardian.” They agree and
head off to Mertzen. But why does Plainsworth hate his mother? Why did she leave when his father died?
In order to get to Mertzen Town, one must cross the Central Road. Now this isn’t the generic “road” area that’s basically just a dirt path used as a placeholder for an area, most commonly seen in the Seven Sources. The Central Road is an actual street. With cars moving along at great speeds. Soon you’ll meet with Dex and Cam. They meet and give you your pack of cards. The cards are collectable items with every character and enemy on them. Enough of that. Eventually, you’ll head west enough and reach Plainsworth’s house. Plainsworth says, “Maybe before we go, we should see if we need anything from–” “NO!” Cecil interrupts. “I mean… uh, this is a dire emergency. We shouldn’t waste any time.” Just then. Greed emerges from the door, “Wrath, I thought I told you that you should only spy on the Rocbells from 9-10 o’clock AM. NO MORE–, wait why are they here?” Plainsworth says, “Wait, why are YOU here?” Cecil says, “It’s a long story. Just ignore it. I ASSURE you that Greed, Sloth, and Lust won’t do any harm.” “Why are all three of them in my house?” “Don’t worry about it. I have it all under control,” as Cecil says with his fingers crossed behind his back.
Chapter 1: Mertzen in Denial
In order to get to Mertzen Town, you’ll have to cross—wait for it—MERTZEN TRAIL! While walking, Plainsworth asks Cecil, “Why were they in my house?” Cecil responds, “That’s not important now. I’ll tell you later.” Just then, some girl about Cecil’s age—well, what his age would be—appears. She seems to know Cecil. He says, “Oh, uh, hey Amy. What are you doing here? I’m sort of on my way to get to Mertzen.” Amy responds, “I was just walking around, thinking. Who are these?” “They’re my… family’s… friends. And this is Neo. He’s my friend.” “Cool. Well, I’m on my way to Mertzen. Wanna come?” “Sure, that’s where I’m going right now. Come on Neo.” Plainsworth tries to ask what that was about, but they leave before he could say a word. “That’s odd. Cecil isn’t known for having… friends. What is he hiding?”
As you go to the capital of Mertzen, Mertzen, we see all of the residents angry, holding newspapers yelling “HOW COULD THIS BE?!” or “WE WANT WHOOZITT BACK!!!” Now, why would they yell that? Simple, there is a new chancellor. His name is Matt Dowty, and he meets Plainsworth on the street. He says, “Oh, hello there. You must be Plainsworth.
Mr. Whoozitt told me lots about you. You’ve apparently done many great feats. I respect that. I’m your new chancellor. You may call me Dowty or Matt, and I look forward to more meetings with you. Also, please disregard these raging people. They’re just in denial that either Whoozitt is no longer chancellor or that Kraner, my opponent, wasn’t. It was really close, though. I won by one vote. ONE VOTE! Well, anyway, I’ll see you later. Mertzen is in his house if you need him.” Plainsworth and Percy go to Mertzen’s house. Cecil, Neo, and Amy are out somewhere else, though.
You head into Mertzen’s house. He goes, “Hmm? Oh, ah. AH-HA! Sorry, I must’ve dozed off for a second. Hello Plainsworth, Percy. What brings you here? Wait, don’t tell me. You have to save the world…” Plainsworth says, “Yeah, and we need the Crystal Stars and we heard there was one–” “From a pack of one dozen giant crazed weasels!” “What?!” “Sorry, strange things come to mind when you just wake up. Anyway, the Crystal Stars, you say? Yes, there is one here. Well, there WAS one. It’s split into five pieces, actually. Reminds me of the Sacred Jewels of Light. Anyway, I DO in fact have one piece. Here is the plant section of the Elemental Star. There is also the Water, Fire, Shadow, and… um… LIGHT! Yes. My memory is going. Anyway. I know that the other four pieces are in the Lake of the Ancients, which is just south of Crystal Temple. I recommend you go there.” “Well, I guess we could go, but Cecil and Neo should stay here just in case anything bad goes on. A Guardian and an Antighost should take care of it.” “Yes, very good. When you get to LotA, say hello to Rikki for me.” Rikki? He’s a new character. So it’s time to start Chapter 1!!!…………………………………………………………and a half.
Chapter 1.5: Music of the Violins
Here we are in the Lake of the Ancients, or LotA for short. There is a quiet sound of violins in the background. It’s nice and peaceful. But it won’t be for long. We meet the angry handyman, Torque. He really has no reason to fight you aside from continuity. Well, no. He was in the middle of trying to find peace with his “inner chakras”. Yeah. Sure. And you two interrupted him. He gets angry and, as always, fights you. You win and move on. Eventually, you get to see shrines near the lake. They represent each Guardian. You can look at them and get background information. The violin sound gets louder.
As you travel forth, the violin gets louder and louder. Eventually we find the source. It is a kid about 13. AND HIS NAME IS RIKKI!!! Plainsworth says, “That sounds really good.” Rikki responds, “Hmm? Oh, thanks. I’ve been practicing for years. Mertzen gave me this magical violin and it just escalated there. In fact, I used to go over to Whoozitt all the time and play. He and the councilmen loved it. Maybe I should stop by again sometime to
Whoozitt Council.” “Well, actually it’s Dowty Hall now. Whoozitt’s term is up. Our new chancellor is Matt Dowty.” “Seriously? How long have I been gone? Anyway, if you want, I can play for you.” “Actually, we’re looking for the Elemental Star.” “The Elemental Star?” Oh yeah, I have that—well, part of it. It’s the light section of it. You can have it if you want. I have no use for it.” “Thanks.” “But, I assume you’ll want the rest of it as well. Don’t worry. I know this lake like the back of my hands. I’ll go with and help.” Rikki joined you and he is now partner number 1.
Now that he joined you, you can venture through the lake and find even more Elemental Star Pieces. However, GREED APPEARS AGAIN! He says, “Oh my goodness. WHERE IS WRATH! What did you pests do to him?” Percy responds, “He’s still in Mertzen Town with a girl named Amy.” “What?! This is bad. He knows he can’t be seen around other people. I will find him and I will kick him if I had legs.” “Don’t worry, he’s with Neo.” “NEO?!?! YOU LET A GUARDIAN BE WITH AN ANTIGHOST?! Oh, you irresponsible twerps. I allowed you to go along with him and THIS is how you care for him?! He’s our master! Treat him with respect or all seven of us will possess you so hard you won’t even remember who you are. C’MERE YOU BRATS!!!” This triggers a battle with Greed. His mechanics return from the Great Chapter. You have to destroy his staff first and then attack him. After you beat him, he walks away and looks for Cecil. You move on. There’s nothing plot-related until you find the water section of the Star laying around in the fields. You pick it up, and there are only two more sections left!
Now that we found that, Rikki says, “If I remember correctly, there should be two more sections of the star left. One of them is inside the Lake of the Ancients Cavern. It is held by a king of Squaggles known as Grungly. I’m sure you can take him, though.” You enter the cavern. There is nothing plot-related until you find Grungly. He can’t speak. He only grunts. But it assumed that he said “This is my Fire Star. You can’t have it.” The battle
begins. Since he has a spike-helmet, you can’t jump on him. However, Rikki has an attack that makes strong winds appear. He can blow the helmet off. After you do that a couple times and attack him, he’ll be knocked out. He grunts and gives you the Fire Star. There is only one left, which still should be in the cavern. As you venture further, you see a man in a brown suit. He says, “Now that I have the Shadow Star, I only need the other four and—WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE! GET OUT! GET OUT I SAY!!! YOU DIDN’T SEE ANYTHING! YOU DID NOT! TELL NO ONE OR ELSE!!!” He then pushes you out of the cavern. I guess we should go back to Mertzen Town.
Chapter 1 continued
We are back in Mertzen. Cecil and Neo are with his friend Amy. They’re walking around, looking at nature. Cecil thinks, Oh, when will this torture end? I hope Plainsworth comes back soon. Just then, Plainsworth comes back. He says, “Cecil, Neo, did you happen to see a man with a dark purple segment of a star?” Cecil points to Amy nervously, trying to act normal in front of his friend. Plainsworth says, “Oh… okay. Never mind. I’ll go check with Mertzen.” After they leave, Amy says she has to go home. When she leaves, Cecil says, “Finally! A man with a dark purple star segment? We saw someone like that. Come on, Neo. Let’s find that guy.” They eventually find someone who looks like he knows something. Neo says, “Excuse me sir, but have you seen anyone with a dark purple shard?” The man says, “No. Why do you ask?” Cecil says, “Hey wait, you’re… you’re” “I’m Tom Kraner. You may have heard of me. I’m the guy who was SUPPOSED to win the election against Dowty. Pardon me. Anyway, a dark purple shard? Never seen one. You kids better run off now. Your parents or guardians may be looking for you. Bye now.” Once they leave, Tom takes out a dark purple shard and says, “That was almost too close.”
As Cecil and Neo go back to Plainsworth and Percy, Plainsworth asks, “Did you find anything?” Cecil says, “No. But we did find Mr. Tom Kraner, Dowty’s opponent.” “Wait, Tom Kraner. I seem to remember what he looks like. What was he wearing?” “A brown suit. He also had a hook for a hand and a white streak in his hair.” “That was the guy we saw in the cavern. He stole the Shadow Star. After him!” As you eventually chase up to him, Tom says, “What do you want from me? You think just because I have a hook hand means I have evil intentions? Oh, wait, it’s you. I saw you. You were spying on me in the cavern. I guess that means there’s no use lying anymore. Yes, my name is Tom Kraner. Yes, I did steal the Shadow Star. AND YES, I LOST TO DOWTY BY ONE FREAKIN’ VOTE!!! Ahem. Anyway, my plan was to find the Elemental Stars, combine them, and reign terror over Mertzen as I would have done if a certain voter hadn’t decided to vote for a certain candidate. So that’s my story. But since you know that, I’ll either have to erase your memory or kill you. But since I don’t have the technology to erase your memory, I’ll have to settle with door number 2!!!” This triggers the first chapter boss battle. His fight is pretty basic. After you defeat him, he drops the Shadow Star and you have finally created the Elemental Star!
Chapter 2: Blame in a Kingdom
You go back to the Crystal Temple. Gregory and Serena are waiting. Greg says, “How was it?” Plainsworth says, “Don’t even get me started. It turns out that Dowty’s opponent, Tom Kraner, is actually evil.” “I had a theory about that. That’s why I voted for Dowty. Anyway, give me that Crystal Star and I’ll put in on the altar. Serena, where to next?” Serena says, “HA! Oh, man. Good luck on this one. I’m sorry, it’s just… oh man. You’re gonna have a fun time here. Your next destination where the next Crystal Star, the Diamond Star, is in… SPYRAL CASTLE. Have fun trying to pry it from the king. I’ll bet you he’s too busy arguing with King Jelli next door. Anyway, to get there, take Unity Road, which you will take the southeast exit on Central Road closest to the church to get there.” Percy says, “What’s wrong with Spyral Castle?” “The Spies and Jelaatos of those kingdoms are bitter rivals. They’re caught up in a feud that should have ended a LONG time ago. No one even knows why they’re fighting.” Greg says, “Cecil, Neo, you should stay here. I don’t think a battleground is suitable enough for kids like you.” And they travel off.
You are on the Unity Road now. It’s a feel-good place that has a nice stream going by it. Its niceness is countered by the Spyral-Jelli feud. You meet up with Lan and Mako from the Great Chapter. Lan says, “Hey I know you. You saved me from those horrible Antighost things, right? Oh, kon’nichiwa. On another adventure, huh? Yep, I know that feeling. I just recently became king of Shing and my responsibilities have increased bigtime. Anyway, I hope you know what you’re doing. Going up to Spyral Castle takes guts. You can’t walk three meters without running into a knight. That’s why Mako and I are trying to escape as soon as possible. So, uh, see ya, sayōnara!” They leave quite hastily. Before you go to the castle, you run into RICHER! As always. He says, “Oh. Hello Mr. Clumsy and El Smasho. How are you vase destroyers doing?” Plainsworth says, “Rich, let it go. It’s all in the past now.” “DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH THAT COSTED? Not cool. NOT COOL! You are still in debt by the way. And if you don’t pay for your destructions, I’ll have to pry the money from you! NGAHHHHHH!!!!!” This starts the obligatory battle with Richer. Once you beat him he says, “Oh, you will rue the day you broke my vase. RUE IT I SAY!!!” And he leaves. And Spyral Castle is just up ahead.
As you enter Spyral Castle, you are greeted by two Spy Knights. They say, “What business do you have here? More importantly, are you associated with a Jelaato of any sort?”
Plainsworth says, “Umm, we’re here for the Crystal Star…” “Oh? Well then. Follow us right this way.” They head up. “Sire, two Plainwoodsmen would like to speak with you about your… treasure.” The king says, “Hmm. All right. Bring them in.” Plainsworth says, “Hello sir. My name is–” “Where are your manners? Don’t you know how to greet a king? Grovel. Genuflect!” “Uhh, sorry. Anyway, my name is Plainsworth Rockbell and this is my brother, Percy. We’re here to talk about the Crystal Star.” “I know. I’ve been told you need it to ‘save the world’ or something. Whatever. You know I can’t hand this over to just anybody. Prove to me you’re worthy. Intrude Jelli’s castle. Get him to confess.” “Why? What’s going on between–” “SILENCE, I’M SPEAKING! You are now my new knights. I dub thee knights. Now, about Jelli. He’s tough. Hmm. Wait. Give me back those knight statuses. If you can beat me in a fight, you can beat that weakling next door. FIGHT ME!!!” You fight him, beat him, and he says, “Very nice. You’re now knights. Oh, speaking of which, COOPER! YOU’RE NEEDED!!!” A tough-looking Spy with iron-clad armor comes in. “Yes, sire. What dost thou wanteth?” “Cooper, you go with these new knights to take down Jelli. They can’t do it without your help, you can’t do it without their help. Agreed?” “Agreed, sire. Dost thou wanteth to be with them always?” “Come to think of it, yes. Cooper, you are now these guys’ new personal servant. Call them ‘sirs’ and be sure to treat them with respect, okay?” “Of course, sire. Come, let us go sirs. We must taketh down Jelli.” PARTNER #2!!! Time to go to Jelli Castle.
But you have to cross Unity Road some more. Jelli’s castle is just up ahead until you run into somebody. “Sorry, ma’am, we’re in a hurry,” Plainsworth says. The person says, “Ma’am? MA’AM?!?!?! YOU INSOLENT LITTLE SNIPE! I AM NO MA’AM! I AM IN FACT A MAN AND–” he’s interrupted by a man in a suit who gently floats down from the sky. He says, “Calm down, Milo. I know your burning passion to kill, but we must leave these ones alive. They are crucial to our mission. Maybe when it’s done, you can do whatever you want to them. Anyway. Hello my friends. Plainsworth, Percy, haven’t seen you two in a

Nevada (Far right) with Milo (Middle right)
LOOOOONG time. It’s been, what, 5 years since we’ve seen each other? Well. Things have changed in that time. In fact, it’s been so long, I doubt you even remember me. I certainly remember you two though. Especially Plainsworth. You were so loud and obnoxious as a child. And thanks to you, I have located the next Crystal Star, which I will be getting first. So, Milo, if you don’t mind, slow these pests down. I have some important errands to run. AND REMEMBER! Do not kill them. Only severely injure them. Until next time, ta-ta.” He walks away. Milo says, “Well, he’s gone. Which means he’ll never be able to know if you’re alive. Hmm. WELL THIS IS FOR CALLING ME A GIRL!!!” Milo attacks. He’s very fast at attacking and has a lot of ATK power. Luckily, he gets winded easily. Once you beat him, he says, “GACK! YOU HAVE NOT YET SEEN THE END OF ME, MILO THE VILE! I scuttle away.” And he scuttles away. Plainsworth says, “That man. He looked a lot like… wait, wasn’t that Uncle Nevada?”
Percy responds, “I think. I don’t really remember much about him. But why would he want to kill—well, severely injure us? And why does he want the Crystal Star?” They both are confused, but go into Jelli Castle. Two Jelaato Knights come in and say, “Intruders? What should we do?” The other one says, “Wait, is that a Spy with them?” “Yeah, that’s that way-before-his-time knight, Cooper.” “It is. King said to lock up anyone associated with Spies in the dungeon. Should we?” Just then, King Jelli comes out. He says, “What’s going on here? Oh, good evening sirs. What can I do for you?” One knight says, “Sire, they’re with a Sp–” “But that doesn’t matter, right?” “It doesn’t?” “OF COURSE IT DOES, YOU IDIOT! A SPY INTRUDED! LOCK THEM UP IN THE DUNGEON!!!” They are now in the dungeon. And so is Nevada. He says, “Well that was stupid of me. As the Guardian of Wisdom, I should know better than to say that Spyral sent me. Whatever, I’ll just warp out of here with a one, two–” and he vanishes after a strange tune is sounded. Rikki comes out and says, “Who was that guy?” Plainsworth responds, “Our late father’s friend. We called him Uncle Nevada. For some reason, he wants the Crystal Star, too.” “Hmm. Did you hear that song he played? Maybe if I play it on my violin, we can warp out of this place. Let’s try it!” He plays the song, and they go into some 2-dimesnional world. It looks spooky and weird, but Rikki also learned a new playable song. What it’s called and what it does will be revealed later.
As you travel enough through this incredibly weird 2D place. You meet a purple Jelaato. It says, “What? Who are you? How did you get here?” Plainsworth says, “I have no idea. We just played a song and–” “Never mind that. Ech! What is that horrible odor? You. You’re still alive, aren’t you?” “I, um…” “If you’re alive, how’d you get to the Spirit World? Wait! Interdimensional crooks, you must be! No one gets past through my Spirit Castle without my permission. I will get you to leave, or my name isn’t King Jemblie Jelli the First!” He battles you. Once you win, he says, “I suppose since it’s a spirit against a human, I would lose a lot more easily. BUT THIS IS NOT THE LAST OF ME, YOU SCOUNDRELS!” Once he leaves, you part forward. After going forward enough, Jemblie comes back. “GACK! Whatever could you want?” Percy says, “Look, sir, we don’t really know how we ended up here–” “SILENCE! No excuse will make me change my mind. You criminals will be now match against the FIRST JELLI CASTLE!!!” He enters and old-looking castle and presses a button. It turns the castle into a fighting machine. “Not so tough now, are you? Scum like you make me sick. JELLI CASTLE ATTACK!” But this guy is huge! How can we ever beat it? Just then, you hear Rikki’s new song again, but he’s not playing it. Spirits go into you. You’re growing larger. And larger. FIRST GIANT BATTLE TIME!” You beat him and he says, “I give up. You are clearly too powerful for me. I guess I’ll have to send you back to your own world now. BE GONE!” And you’re back in Jelli Castle Dungeons
Once you escape the dungeons, you try and get up to the king to settle the argument. But you’re still wondering about that song. You get up to Jelli VIII’s quarters and he says, “Well, well, well. You escaped. I’m not surprised. That one guy escaped with no trouble. Remind me to build better dungeons. Now. Let me guess. You want to stop our feud. HA! I’d laugh if it wasn’t true. But I’ll laugh anyway. You really want this to stop. And for what? A lousy star made of pressurized coal? But I guess you’re persistent. So you leave me no choice. I WILL FIGHT YOU AND YOUR SPY FRIEND! But first I have to go change into my battle clothes.” A few minutes pass. “I’m back! LET’S DO THIS!” A chapter boss battle with King Jelli VIII himself. His attacks are easy to dodge. Once you beat him, he says. “Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. And furthermore, wow. You guys are too strong for me. No, seriously. Y’know what? Have Spyral sign this peace treaty. I promise we’ll stop fighting.” You go back over to Spyral Castle, and King Spyral says, “A treaty? Hmm. Okay. Fine, I suppose. JELLI, DO YOU HEAR ME! WE SHALL NO LONGER FIGHT! Thank you so much for clearing this up. As my thanks, here is this Diamond Star I promised. Don’t break it.” You got the second crystal star! Let’s go back to Crystal Temple.
Chapter 3: Waves of Azure
You go back into the Crystal Temple. Cecil is waiting. He says, “So how was it? You had to do all the fun stuff while me and Neo just sat here patiently until you came back. We’re never waiting here again.” Greg comes in and says, “Ignore those two. They were just disappointed at the punch line for the world’s longest joke I told them to pass the time. Believe me, it takes about 2 hours to tell. Anyway, it looks like you have the Diamond Star, so I’ll take that. And, Serena, the next area, if you please?” Serena says, “You guys just can’t get enough of the Spyral region. The next Star, the Sapphire Star, is located in Spyral Bay. Scriptures say ‘To get the treasure of Spyral Bay, look for them in azure waves.’” Greg says, “Bay doesn’t rhyme with waves. But whatever. Time to go. We’re breezing through this. Spyral Bay is just north of here. And keep your eyes peeled for the mysterious waves of azure. And Cecil, Neo, if you guys are still bored, you can go with them, too.” And you move on.
So here we are in Spyral Bay. There’s surf, there’s sand, there’s sun, there’s a body washed up on the beach. Wait, what?! You rush over there to check on it. It’s still breathing. It faintly says, “Need… fresh… water…” Plainsworth says, “Uh, UH! Cecil, Neo, you two stay here to check his pulse. We’ll get him some water!” And you rush around to find some fresh water. As Plainsworth and Percy are running, they bump into someone else. The someone says, “Oh, pardon me. I’m sort of in a hurry.” And he runs off. Plainsworth flinched at the sight of him. Percy says, “Hey, did you know that guy?” Plainsworth says, “Well, you won’t remember, but that guy looked EXACTLY like our father. Which is odd, since we’re trying to revive him as of this mission.” “Oh, look a bottle of water! C’mon, let’s go give it to that guy!”
You give the washed up person the water and he goes, “OH WOW!!! Thank you sooooooo much. I really needed that. If it wasn’t for you, I would’ve been a goner. My name’s Miko, by the way. You may have heard of me. I am the guitarist for the band The Azure Waves.” Percy responds, “Wait, Azure Waves? So the scripture meant a band and not some sort of sacred occurrence. Well that’s sort of anticlimactic, but, uh, Mr. Miko? Do you know anything about a Crystal Star?” “Crystal Star? Oh yeah, I know something like that. I have one piece in my house. C’mon, I’ll show you.” As the go into his house, we see someone else looking through his stuff. It’s Jamal, the band’s bassist. He says to himself, “Let’s see, guitar, no. Band merchandise, no. Picture of Azure, okay, ew!” Miko says, “Jamal? What are you doing in my house?” “AHH MIKO, YOU’RE… alive?” “What are you talking about?” “Oh, well, you went out for a swim two months ago and didn’t come back. Everyone just assumed you were dead.” “Dead?! Jamal, that’s jumping to conclusions a bit too quickly, don’t you think?” “Two months.” “Point taken. But what about Chester, or Azure, or Kipper, or… Rudy?” “Oh yeah, they think you’re dead, too.” Cecil says, “Hate to interrupt, but weren’t we promised a Crystal Star?” Miko says, “Yeah, yeah, I’ll give it after this is settled. So where is everyone now?” Jamal says, “Scattered around the bay. They can’t have gone far.” “Well we have to find them. Hey, blue rectangle, red oval, and kids, would you mind helping me find my bandmates?” Plainsworth says, “Of course. The Crystal Star can wait.” Cecil says, “Does it have to?” Miko says, “Alright, then let’s team up!” AND THIS IS PARTNER #3. Or rather, you’re Miko’s partners. Whatever, let’s go.
Cecil and Plainsworth split up, but Miko is with both. Somehow. You can choose to either go northeast, southeast, or west. Let’s start with west. Cecil and Neo go west and bump into the same person that Plainsworth and Percy bump into. Miko flinches. He says, “It’s you. You must have been the captain on the ship you held me on.” The man says, “You’re alive? Well, no matter. You still have something I want. Give it or else.” “Or else what?” “Or… well… CONSEQUENCES! Give that Sapphire Star or no one gets hurt.” “You mean ‘and’?” “Give it AND no one gets hurt. GAH! ENOUGH ALREADY! Despite your amazing music and lyrical geniuses, I won’t hold back. GIVE IT!” This starts the battle with… whoever he is. We think it’s Corona. You beat him. “GAH! Ffff, I’ll deal with you later. Maybe you’ll change your mind when the other members are on the line.” And he leaves. Neo says, “Who was that guy?” Miko says, “He kidnapped me when I was out swimming two months ago. Whatever. Let’s rescue the other members.” You find a short old man. He’s talking on the phone. “I’m sorry, but Miko will not be available for the meet-and-greet. Why? Uhh… I’m not allowed to give personal information.” Miko taps his shoulder and the man says, “Miko?” He goes back to his call and says, “It looks like Miko is back from his vacation. Bye now!” He turns back to Miko. “MIKO, YOU’RE ALIVE! I knew you were alive all along. Had you not come back sooner, I would’ve had to rely on my old guitar skills to fill in for you.” Miko says, “I’m glad to see you too, Chester. Have you seen the others?” “Yes. They’re all in the east. Well, time to go back and reorganize all of our merch and tour dates. Bye.” Three down, three to go.
Next, we switch over to Plainsworth and Percy. We go northeast first. Eventually, we find someone who looks pretty, but also menacing. She sees you and goes, “Hmm? AHH! Wait, you’re that fish-guy my boyfriend, his friend, and I kidnapped. How are you alive? More importantly, do you have the Sapphire Star? YES OF COURSE YOU DO, MIKO! Now hand it over, and I promise nothing bad will happen.” He rejects her and starts another battle. You win and she says, “Hmmph. Well, don’t think you’re off the hook. HAH! It’s funny because you’re a fish!” And she walks away. Soon, you’ll find someone tangled in wires. He talks to himself, “Y’know. Miko always untangled me from wires. Too bad he’s–” he sees Miko, “ALIVE?!?! OH THANK EVERYTHING! I knew you were alive, Miko. I… just… well… glad to have you back anyway.” Miko says, “Thanks, Kipper. You need help with that sound equipment?” “Yes, please. Thank you. Now, sorry to leave in such a hurry, but there is a keyboard and sheet music calling my name. Bye!” And Kipper leaves. Only two to go. Now we go southeast. Eventually we run into the last two, Rudy the drummer, and Azure the lead singer. Miko says, “Rudy! Azure! I am so glad to see you two. Well, maybe not so much Rudy.” Rudy says, “So, you’re alive? I was sort of hoping you weren’t.” Azure says, “Rudy, be nice. Without him, the band would go downhill. I knew you weren’t dead, Miko. I heard you got kidnapped by pirates! I’m glad you’re okay.” Plainsworth remarks, “Actually, now that she mentions it, what did these pirates look like?” Miko says, “Well, we just fought one, another one looked like you, but yellowish, and the last one looked sort of like a ninja.” “Hmm. I wonder if that really WAS Dad.” Rudy butts in, “Hey, Miko. Just wondering, but, where’s that Crystal Star? I need it to attach to my drum set to make it look AWESOME! Not like you’d know anything about that.” “Miko says, “I have it, but what makes you think you’re the leader of the band?” They then argue and fight, and soon, Plainsworth and Percy have to settle their disputes with another battle. Once you win, Rudy says, “Screw this. I’m going back home.” Azure follows. AND WE FOUND ALL OF THE AZURE WAVES!
As we get back to Miko’s house, he says, “Thanks. You guys really helped me a lot. In fact, do you mind if I go along with your adventures? Oh, I almost forgot, here’s the Sapphire Star. Wait, I think I see those pirates again. Quick, hide!” We see the man, the woman, and someone else. The man says, “Did you find anything, Tari?” Tari, the one who fought Plainsworth and Percy, says, “I found two Plainwoodsmen along with Miko. What did you find Corona?” “Two kids. Snake, any news about the Crystal Stars?” Snake, the ninja-looking one we haven’t seen yet, says, “Well, we know that Miko is not affiliated with Nevada, which means it’s okay if he has the Crystal Star.” Corona says, “Good, good. We don’t want Nevada to unleash his plan.” Snake says, “Corona, what are the chances that your two sons interfere with this mission?” Corona says, “Not likely. I doubt they remember what I look like, it’s been 18 years.” Tari says, “Well, actually, those two Plainwoodsmen sort of looked like you.” Corona says, “Never mind that. Let’s get back to the ship and locate the other stars. We must make sure Nevada has his hands on NONE of them.” And all three of them leave. Plainsworth says, “Wait. That WAS Dad? And what was Aunt Snake doing there? And who was that other girl?” Percy says, “I’m sure that Mom will know something. C’mon, let’s go back to Crystal Temple.
Chapter 3 Interlude
Plainsworth says, “Greg, we’re back. We need to talk to Mom and–” Greg says, “STOP RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE! There are several incredibly large wasp nests in here. The exterminator will be here shortly. May we discuss this outside?” They go outside. Plainsworth says, “While we were in Spyral Bay, we saw Dad. He was ALIVE! And we also saw Aunt Snake.” Serena says, “Hmm? Snake? Why would my sister be affiliated with my late husband? Well, what did they want?” “They wanted the Crystal Stars to prevent Nevada from using them.” “Nevada? He’s your father’s best friend. This just doesn’t make any sense. Well, never mind that. I’ve located two Crystal Stars and found that it would be most efficient if Cecil and Neo found one, while you and Percy found the other. One is within Barron Woods, the other is in Mount Monnelley’s valley of MerryJolly. Split up and find both.” Just then, the exterminator comes in. He says, “Wasp nests, huh? Don’t worry. This’ll only take a moment.” He goes in, then comes back out. “I wouldn’t enter there for at least 24 hours. And pardon me for eavesdropping, but I heard you say something about Barron Woods, is that right?” Greg says, “Yeah, why?” “Oh, well, there’s this thief there causing havoc. I really need to find him. Can I come with you?” “Yeah, sure, why not?” “Great!” PARTNER #4. Let us travel to either Barron Woods or MerryJolly Valley.
These next two chapters can be completed in any order. You may start with 4 or 5. Cecil and Neo go to 4, Plainsworth and Percy go to 5. I will start with 4.
Chapter 4: Darkness in the Forest
Cecil and Neo enter the woods. Neo says, “I don’t like the looks of this place. It seems really scary.” Cecil says, “Don’t be such a wimp. I’m sure getting the Crystal Star will be a piece of cake.” They travel through more, and we see Podleaf and his daughter Holly. Podleaf says, “Oh. You must be friends of Plainsworth and Percy, yes?” Cecil says, “Yes we are. Know anything about a Crystal Star?” “Crystal Star, Crystal Star… OH! Yes. I do. I have it somewhere around here. But, I don’t feel like finding it right now. It’s late. We should go to bed, and I’ll give it to you tomorrow. Holly, time for bed!” They all go to bed. Neo, as the Guardian of Fear, is tossing and turning in his sleep. He must still be scared of the woods. He seems like he’s having a nightmare. He suddenly wakes up, sweating. He says, “Oh, wow. Just a dream. Just. A. Dream. Nothing to worry about. In this… really creepy forest. Maybe I should walk around a little.” He walks around and tries to find Podleaf to guide him around the woods so he doesn’t get lost. Here’s the thing, though. PODLEAF IS MISSING!
Neo runs back to camp. “CECIL! HOLLY! WAKE UP!” Cecil says, “Neo… it’s late o’clock in the morning. What could you possibly want?” “Podleaf is GONE!!!” “So? He could just be taking a walk.” “He promised us the Crystal Star.” “WE HAVE TO FIND HIM NOW! Holly, do you know anywhere he could have gone?” Holly says, “Well, he keeps saying that he’s always wanted to muster up enough courage to enter the Temple of Fear.” “Then let’s go there. ONWARD! FIND THE CRYSTAL STAR!” “And Dad–” “Yeah, yeah, and Podleaf.” They leave. Eventually, they come across a rustling tree. IT’S SENTIENT! It tries to drag you into the depths of the forest, but you boss battle it, and everything’s good. Eventually, they find another rustling tree. They hear a voice. Jake, the exterminator, comes out and says, “That’s the thief. I know that voice. Quick! Shake the tree, and I’ll catch him with my net.” Cecil shakes the tree, and a girl falls down. Rather than landing in Jake’s net, she lands in Neo’s arms. Jake says, “Calculations must have been off.” The girl says, “HEY! WHAT IS THIS! Let me go—who’s this?” Neo says, “Uhh, I’m Neo, and this is Cecil, Holly, and Jake.” “Well… thanks for saving me, Neo. Giggle” Cecil says, “Why are you here? What do you want?” The girl says, “SHUT UP! I have a little secret I’m not telling.” She looks at Neo, “My name’s Navira, by the way. We should hang out some time.” Cecil says, “Yeah, well I have a secret, too.” Navira says, “What is it?” “Uhh… not important now. Anyway, have you seen a small, sentient tree pass by here?” “I saw something like that going into the Temple of—oh no. Don’t tell me you’re going to the Temple of Fear. If you’re going, then I’m going too.” “Why?” “Uhh, well, Neo here seems brave… enough… to…” “Yeah, yeah, whatever. Let’s go.” PARTNER #5
After few hours of walking and Navira staring at Neo, eventually we hear YET ANOTHER RUSTLING TREE! Somebody flies down very boldly. But he lands flat on his face. He says, “Really need to work on that landing. Greetings, civilians. I noticed you were lost in this horrid forest. Allow me, The Crow, to guide you out of here. Cecil says, “What are you, some sort of superhero? Listen, guy, we’re not lost. In fact, we’re on our way to the Temple of Fear.” Crow says, “WHAT! No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Furthermore, no. No minors like you should travel to such a terrifying place like that. I know I can’t.” Cecil says, “Says the one who just fell flat on his face. Sir, we will be going regardless of what you say. Outta the way!” “NO! I won’t let you. But, you seem persistent. I’ll tell you what: If you can beat me in a spar, you’re ready for the Temple of Fear.” They agree and you beat him. Crow says, “GAH! NO! I mean, uh, you are clearly worthy. I am sorry for doubting you. BUT BE CAREFUL! They don’t call it the Temple of Fear for nothing. I warned you. Don’t blame me if you get nightmares for one month straight. I know I did. Anyway, so long civilians. Remember, if you are in need of help, The Crow will always be there.” And he runs away, idiotically. The Temple of Fear is just ahead.
You enter the temple. Neo looks scared out of his mind. Cecil looks unimpressed. Nothing plot-related until we see Nevada again. He says, “Hmm? Oh, friends of Plainsworth and Percy, I presume. Mmm, how pathetic. You little slugs must be scared out of your minds right now. I, however, am a grown-up. This temple means nothing to me. And, let me guess, you’re looking for the Crystal Star? Well, good luck! I’ll have you know that I have a total of… zero stars. BUT! Today will be different. In the race for the stars, I, the adult, will best your scrawny little child skills. HA! HA HA! You’ll never get it. NEVER! TRY ME!” Battle time. You beat him. He says, “Oh, screw it! I’ll deal with you later! Also, I bet you don’t even know how to travel to the Spirit World. Little weaklings like you must be too stupid to figure it out!” He says “stupid” with a very insulting “yoo” sound. He leaves and hums a tune. Rikki comes out, “That tune he was humming. That was the song I learned in Jelli Castle. Was that the Spirit World we were in? I’ll play it. Let’s see.” He plays the song. They warp to a place. A man peeks out from behind. He seems insane. Crazy. Mad. He goes, “Aaaahhhhh. What could they have been doing here? Maybe for a treasure? No, that’s stupid. Only we know about the treasure. B-but maybe they d-do! SILENCE! SHUT UP OR PERISH! Ahh, guys, please calm down. He’s right. We must cooperate. But why were they here?” That man was one person, by the way.
Neo, Cecil, and the group are in some sort of surreal 2D Temple of Fear. Navira comes out and says, “I think I’ve heard that song that guy was humming. It’s called the Serenade of Bonds. It allows you to travel in and out of the Spirit World, but only in certain areas.” Cecil asks, “Why? And what could we use it for?” “Well, you’re looking for the Crystal Stars, right? Maybe there could be clues.” Just then, a worm comes squirming down. Cecil says to it, “Not very threatening are you? What’s someone like you doing in the Temple of Spirit-Fear-whatever?” It gets angry and grows. Now it’s going to eat you! Boss battle, and it’s all good. Navira says, “We should be careful here. Let’s find the place to travel back to the real world as soon as we can.” Later, they run into a giant head. It says nothing, but it grows. It looks intimidated. It must be attacking you as a defense. But it’s huge. It could crush you! But, remember in Spirit Castle? Cecil and Neo grow huge from spirit energy. Let’s GIANT BATTLE! You beat it, and it falls over. You find a panel to transport back to the real world, and the madman is waiting for you.
They come back and the man says, “What sort of sorcery could people like you have to warp out of my sight in a flash? I MUST KNOW! TELL DENTLY NOW!” Cecil says, “You don’t seem very trustworthy to me.” “Not trustworthy? Of course I am! Just ask my friends.” He points to nothing and no one. Cecil and Neo looks confused. Dently says, “You must be shy. I’ll introduce them to you. I’m Dently, and this is Purple, Red, and Green. Watch out around Red. He’s a little… rampage-y.” Dently then assumes the role of Red and says, “WHAT DID YOU SAY?!” “Nothing. Nothing. It’s okay to hang around Green. He’s cool. And Purple trusts no one. Well, now that the meet-and-greet is over, I must ask: WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE! What could you possibly want? Oh no. They’re here to get the treasure. Ahh, guys, maybe we should reason with them a bit. They could be nice. I REASON WITH NO ONE! THEY ARE AFTER THE STAR OF GARNET AND THE TREE THAT GOES WITH IT! All of you, shut up! Is that true? Are you here for that tree and his star?” Cecil says nothing. He’s in silence of how cuckoo this guy is. Dently says, “SILENCE IS EQUIVALENT TO GUILT! GET OUT OF OUR SIGHT NOW! I knew I couldn’t trust them, I knew it! That doesn’t necessarily mean they’re—THAT’S IT! COME HERE YOU THIEVES!” You battle him. Or them. I’ll just say him. He can change any one of his colors/moods. Different ones have different attacks and strategies. You beat him and he says, “We… can’t go on. I don’t… even know why I want that star… It’s shiny, remember? Ahh, of course. I always love the shiny things. YES! THE SHINIER, THE BETTER! Seriously? Just because of its shine? I am never making evil plans with you again. C’mon. Let’s go. Leave these kids to do what they want.” And he leaves. He is insane. You enter the next room, and Podleaf is standing in there, terrified.
Podleaf says, “You two? You actually found me?” Cecil says, “We were only looking for the star, we don’t care about–” Neo elbows him in the chest. Podleaf says, “Thank you so much! I have no idea how I got here. But after thinking more about it, the Guardian of Fear makes any fear real, correct? Well, Neo feared the temple, and Holly feared losing me. It’s kinda weird. Whatever. Let’s go back to the woods and I’ll give you the star. They come back to the woods. Holly is surprised. She says, “Daddy, you’re back! Thank you SO much guys.” Podleaf says, “I’m happy to see you too, Holly. Now, the star. Where is it? AHA! Here you guys go. Here is the one and only Garnet Star. Take care of it with your LIVES! And I suppose I’ll see you again someday. Bye!
Now that Cecil and Neo’s part of Chapters 4/5 are done, let’s see what Plainsworth and Percy come across in Chapter 5.
Chapter 5: Not-so-MerryJolly
Plainsworth says, “Ahh, MerryJolly. I love this place. It’s so peaceful. So merry. So jolly. And it’s a valley. Didn’t Greg say that the Crystal Star was somewhere here?” Percy says, “Yes he did. Let’s go ask Elvin. He should know something, being the mayor and all.” They approach Elvin Klaus’s house, but they also find something weird with the town. Plainsworth says, “This town is awfully quiet today. I wonder where everyone could be.” They knock on Elvin’s door. No one answers. They knock again. This time, someone, who isn’t Elvin, yells out, “Go away. No one’s home. No one will ever be home. Now go on, scram.” Plainsworth says, “We just need to talk to Elvin.” “Elvin’s not home. The town’s current population is 1: me. I honestly have no idea where anyone is.” “Do you have a guess?” “Go away. I don’t feel like talking. I’ll open the door when I feel happier. Now go away, or else.” He then stops talking, but instead, is now humming a familiar tune. What could it be?
After walking around town, scouting for hints, Rikki finally pops out and says, “I know what to do.” Plainsworth says, “You do?” “Yes. Did you hear that tune he was humming?” “Yeah.” “That was one of the songs I know. Maybe if we play it to him, he’ll let us in.” “It’s worth a try. Let’s go!” The song is the Ode to Awakening. It was a default song when we first met with Rikki. Now let’s use it. You go to the house and Rikki plays the melody. The voice from inside says, “That song… That song has been in my head for hundreds of years. Here. I’ll unlock the door for you. I feel… strangely… glad! Come on in.” He reveals his face. It’s Spirit. He says, “You guys really helped me. That’s one of my favorite songs. I learned it when I was 5, 1010 years ago. So, you want to know where everyone is. My bets are on Mount Monnelley. There’s some sort of ceremony going on there. Oh! But before you leave. I want to tell you something. There’s this other song that’s been in my head. The Oath of Flares, I think it was called. For some reason, whenever I feel guilt, that song plays. I think it has something to do with the fact that Monnelley, Guardian of Weather, and I died the same day at the same time. I want you to learn it. Maybe it’ll trigger something. BUT! Please use it carefully. I have no idea what that magic violin of yours is capable of doing.” You now know the Oath of Flares, which can burn down stuff. Now we must head to Mount Monnelley.
As you climb through Mount Monnelley enough, you suddenly hear crying and sobbing. Who could that be? After following the crying, it soon leads to the Spirit of Winter, Polaris. Plainsworth asks, “Polaris? Is everything okay?” Polaris looks up for a second, recognizes Plainsworth, and says, “Oh, it’s you. Hello. No everything is not okay. In fact, it’s the opposite of okay. Everything is ruined. All entirely ruined!” “What happened?” “Well, as you know, my soon-to-be-wife Autumn and I have been planning our wedding for at least a year. It was going to be HUGE! But, today, the day of the wedding, nobody showed up, Autumn and her family are frozen in blocks of ice, and I can sense a huge storm cloud looming over us. The best day of my life turned out to be one of the worst. Could you please help me and make it so this isn’t a total disaster?” “Sure, anything.” “Great, all you have to do is find everyone trapped in the ice, melt them out, and–” he is interrupted. Someone comes out from nowhere. A psychotic laugh is heard. There’s only one person who it could be, “AHAHAHAHAHAH! It is I, MILO THE VILE! Now tell me, people: WHERE IS THAT CRYSTAL STAR? WHERE IS IT?!?!” Plainsworth says, “Sorry to burst your bubble, Milo, but we’re currently on the search for it ourselves.” “GACK! Well, if that’s how you want to play it, let’s race. The winner gets it.” “Really?” “Of course I’ll be the one getting the head start, mainly because YOU’LL BE TOO DEAD TO DO ANYTHING AHAHAHAHAHAHAH!” Here is another battle with Milo. You beat him. He says, “GAH! No matter. THE STAR WILL BE MINE! MINE, Y’HEAR?!?!” And he scurries away. Time to help Polaris.
Plainsworth and Percy look around the mountain. There are ice blocks scattered across the place. They contain Stormy – Spirit of Rain, Twice – Spirit of Spring, Sunny – Spirit of Summer, and Amber – Another Spirit of Summer. All you have to do is go around the mountain, search for them, and use the Oath of Flares to save them. But there’s one person whom they didn’t find. The bride! Autumn – Spirit of… what do you think? She is found nowhere on the mountain. Plainsworth says, “We’ve found everyone except the most important person. We’ve checked everywhere. Where could she be?” Suddenly, they find a plate on the ground frozen with ice and covered in snow. It looks familiar. Percy recognizes it as the plate Nevada and they used to get to Spirit Castle. They use the Oath of Flares to melt the ice covering it, but we do not know how to use it, though Cecil and Neo do. Just then, Spirit comes again. He says, “I’m feeling really well right now. YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING! But, I feel like I need to help—this plate. THIS PLATE! Gah! I’m getting memories of the Spirit World. Don’t be like me. DON’T PLAY A SONG ENTITLED ‘SERENADE OF BONDS’!!!” and he runs off. Plainsworth says, “That was weird. But maybe that Serenade of Bonds song can help us. Let’s try it.” They’re zapped into the Spirit World. There’s snow everywhere, but it’s awfully warm. They venture on.
They are walking through Spirit Mountain. They feel the need to shiver, but just can’t. Eventually, they reach a cliff. A red dragon appears from nowhere! It is even hotter in the presence of it. But there is still snow everywhere. The dragon looks angry and it breaths out smoke at you. It swipes its claws at you. Looks like it wants to fight. We won’t stop him. You battle and win. The dragon falls down and a bridge appears out of nowhere. After adventuring enough, you see two blocks of ice containing Weather Spirits. One has Autumn, though it is unknown how she got there. The other one is huge. Really huge. The person inside it looks really tough and angry. You try to free Autumn and not the other one, but both blocks of ice melt. Autumn says, “Guys? Thank you so much! You saved–” She is interrupted the huge one roars and says, “WHO DARES AWAKE ME FROM MY ETERNAL SLUMBER?!” Plainsworth says, frightened, “Uhh… we were just trying to free this Spirit from her ice and–” “Fools! Do you not know who I am? I AM MONNELLEY, GUARDIAN OF WEATHER! And you mortals should know better that to mess with a Guardian! I died to create controllable climates. You have freed me from my sleep. If it wasn’t for that Spirit kid who left the Wilds just as I died and—I’m getting off-topic. This block of ice has contained my torrential fury! Now that you have melted it, you shall get a taste of the storms of Monnelley!” He zaps lighting at you. You try to fight him, but he’s huge. Almost as huge as… SPIRIT CASTLE! Spirit energy absorbs into you. You grow large. GIANT BATTLE! You beat him and he says, “You feel that you’ve won, don’t you? Fools! This is my spirit. My body is contained inside the mountain from which you came. Since I am technically alive now, you shall also feel my wrath in the real world! Feel terrible. Feel terrible for what you have done!” And he flies away. You and Autumn decide to try and leave to the real world as quickly as possible.
You enter the real Mount Monnelley and go back to Polaris. Polaris says, “Did you find Autumn? Tell me you did. PLEASE! This wedding MUST be PERFECT!” Plainsworth says, “She’s right here.” “THANK YOU SO MUCH! Oh Autumn, I thought I lost you forever! But anyway, maybe we should postpone the wedding now. You know, the freezing and the excitement.” Autumn says, “Any day is good for me.” “EXCELLENT! Sorry, though. About everything.” “It’s fine.” “GREAT!” Stormy comes over and says to Plainsworth and Percy, “You two. I used to think badly about you. I still do. But slightly less this time. Now that everyone is here, is there anything you need?” Plainsworth says, “We’d like to talk to Elvin Klaus.” “Elvin? Well why didn’t you say so? He and his family were staying up here for the wedding. They’re just up ahead.” They go find Elvin and his family. Elvin says, “Plainsworth, what an outstanding thing you’ve done. Of course, I’m not quite sure what’s going to become of Monnelley, but… You really helped out. Did you want something?” Plainsworth tells him about the Crystal Star. Elvin says, “Oh of course. Now… where did I put it? Sandra, Jet, did you see that Crystal Star?” They both look blankly at him. “Oh, yes. Sorry. I keep forgetting about your lack of vision. Anyway… AH here it is! Take it, you’ve earned it!” You now have the fifth Crystal Star, the Fluorite Star. Only 3 more to go. Time to go back to Crystal Temple.
Chapter 6: Balance
Cecil and Neo come rushing in. Cecil says, “GREEEEG!!!! We found something EXTREMELY important! We found a strange guy named Nevada who’s after the Crystal Stars.” Neo says, “We also found that we can use a certain song to travel to a world of people’s undead spirits!” Greg says, “That’s quite–” he’s interrupted when Plainsworth and Percy come rushing in. Plainsworth says, “Greg, we found a way to travel to the Spirit World!” Greg says, “Highly–” he’s interrupted again when Serena comes in. She says, “Greg, important news. I have discovered our next Crystal Star is located in the afterlife.” Greg says, “What? Really? Rejecks or Recals?” “Hard to tell. What we should be worried about more is how to get there.” “Well, I’ll look into it. And boys, Rockbells, you needed to tell me something?” They tell him about Nevada’s search for the stars and the Serenade of Bonds. Greg says, “Interesting. However, why does Nevada need the Crystal Stars so badly? I guess we’ll find out later. First, let’s try to find a way to get to Recals, the better afterlife.” Just then, Icarus, Guardian of War walks in. He says, “Yo, Plainsworth, Percy, I heard you’re looking for the Crystal Stars. I know that one of them is located in Recals. Or Rejecks. Not sure which. But, if you want to go there, I’ll take you.” Plainsworth says, “Sure. How’ll you take us there?” “Oh you know, some awesome, godly, Guardian powers. Just hold my hands, and you’ll be there in a flash.” Cecil, Neo, Plainsworth, and Percy hang onto Icarus’s hands. They fade away. Plainsworth and Percy arrive in Recals, while Cecil and Neo are somehow in Rejecks!
Plainsworth says, “Ahh, Recals. The good afterlife. Always so peaceful. Now let’s find this Crystal Star and leave.” While exploring, they bump into… Queen? What’s she doing here? She’s the queen of Rejecks, not Recals. Percy says, “Queen? What are you doing up here? And why are there Rejecks all over the place? This is Recals!” Queen responds, “I honestly have no idea. It makes no sense. All I know is that Jailjeck escaped prison, everyone got scared, and tried to hide in a safer place.” “Where are all the Recals?” “Down in Rejecks.” “Why?” “The so-called ‘Guardians of Balance’ said that if all the Rejecks came to Recals, all Recals must go to Rejecks. I don’t like that. It’s SOO cold up here, I feel like I’m going to freeze. And that sun is so bright, I cannot see ANYTHING!” Plainsworth says, “Should we go down to Rejecks and sort this out?” “If you want. It’s dangerous down there. Wait, if you can beat me in a fight, you can handle Rejecks” You battle Queen and beat her. She says, “Good luck. But I think you friends are already down there.” Plainsworth says, “Well, I’m sure a Guardian and Antighost can figure it out, then. Let’s stay up here where it’s safe.” “Suit yourselves.” They walk around Recals, when a bright light flashes. Out comes a woman.
Meanwhile, in Rejecks
Cecil says, “Rejecks, huh? It’s a lot less bad than what I pictured it. Then again, I am the Wrathf–” He stops since he notices that Navira and other normal people are around him. “Err, well, anyway. Where is this Crystal Star? Let’s find it right away–” He is interrupted when King Jeckcal, king of Recals, appears. He says, looking at Neo, “Huzzah! A Guardian is here to save us!” Neo responds with “What? What am I saving you from?” “The most evil Rejeck has escaped prison! To be honest, I blame our guards. Perry and Terry can sometimes be so irresponsible. I’m getting off-track. Listen. You two: Neo and… well. Antighost…” he says to Cecil very angrily, “I really need you to stop Jailjeck. I want the Rejecks to come back down so we Recals can go back up. I feel like I’m going to melt down here.” He walks away. Cecil and Neo come across the River of Lost Spirits, where Scaron the ferryman sits in his boat. He gives the group a ride, but as they’re riding, a pot is flung onto the boat. Fire then emerges from it. It’s sentient! It doesn’t like people who are still alive. You beat it, and Scaron takes you to the end of the river, where the prison lies.
Back over in Recals
The woman emerges from the flash of light. She comes out and says, “What’s happening, what’s going on, who are you, where am I?” Queen responds, “Oh, FINALLY! You must be that angel Palumo sent to settle this whole Recals/Rejecks problem.” “Yes. I am, aren’t I? My name is Avery. Nice to meet ya!” Plainsworth then says, “Palumo? Guardian of Spirit? He sent an angel down to help us?” Avery says, “Yep. Oh, he also told me about your father. I’m sorry to hear that. Is there any way I can help?” “Actually, we are looking for the Crystal Stars.” PARTNER #6. Queen chimes in, “Crystal Stars? Why didn’t you say so? I have one right here.” “Can we have it?” “Well… tell you what: Get your friends in Rejecks to stop Jailjeck, and I’ll give you this star. Avery, stay here. It’s not fit for someone like you down there.” “Okay. It’s on Cecil and Neo, then.” “But, while you’re here, can you try and calm everyone down? They are SO annoying!” They leave to tell everyone it’s going to be okay. They also run into a snake boss that they beat. Now it’s up to Cecil and Neo.
Back in Rejecks
Cecil and Neo keep walking until they find the prison. Someone creeps up behind them. Neo says to Cecil, “Do you ever get the feeling you’re being watched?” Cecil says, “Not really, but whenever someone says that, it usually means there actually is someone behind us.” They both turn around. The evil Jailjeck is standing there. He says, “It took you long enough. I was wondering when you’d notice me creeping behind you.” Cecil says, “You must be Jailjeck. Whatever you’ve done to wind up down here must be pretty bad. Not as bad as me, though. I’m a freaking Antighost.” “And I freaking don’t care. Anyway, thanks to those stupid guards, I easily slipped out of prison. Queen and King are on the lookout for me. But you won’t tell them. RIGHT?!” Neo says, “Uhh… UMM!” Cecil says, “And what would happen if we do?” “I’ll make it so this place is your actual home.” “Neither of us can die.” “SHUT UP! Now don’t tell anyone, OR ELSE!!!” He then battles you. Chapter 6 battle. You win. He walks away saying, “THIS ISN’T THE END OF ME, Y’HEAR?! I’ll find a way to crush you two into tiny bit-sized pieces! You’ll see!” he leaves. Time to tell King and Queen.
Neo and Cecil come up to Recals.
Cecil and Neo come back up. Cecil says to Queen, “Miss, we stopped that Jailjeck person for you.” Queen says, “Really? It’s been so quick. Why do I not believe you?” Just then, Jailjeck appears and says, “Maybe because they DIDN’T!” Queen says, “Jailjeck. I should’ve known you wouldn’t have been beaten that easily.” “Smart one, Queen. But now, you’re going to say goodbye!” Neo seems really scared of him. Wait, Neo’s power. When he gets scared, bad things happen. Uh oh. Jailjeck is growing and darkening. He looks tough. Neo says, “Oh no. What have I done? I need to control my fear!” Jailjeck says, “We-e-ell, I could get used to this. I think I’ll call myself: LIMBO!!!” Queen tells Plainsworth and the group, “It’s up to you four. Stop him!” But he’s huge—wait a minute. We’re technically already in the Spirit World. Plainsworth grows to Limbo’s size. Giant battle, you beat him. Jailjeck says, “NO NO NO!!!” Perry and Terry, the guards, come up and take him away. Queen says, “Thank you so much. So, you wanted a Crystal Star? Here, have it. You’ve earned it.” You now have the sixth Crystal Star. Only two more to go!
Chapter 6 Interlude
Plainsworth says to Greg, “We’re back!” Greg says, “Great! How were your future homes like?” Neo and Cecil look at him angrily. Greg says, “Ehh, well. Anyway, we’ve spotted the last two Crystal Stars. One of them is in Blitz Arena.” Plainsworth says, “How original.” “And the other is located in Deep Valley. East? West? Pretty sure it’s West.” Serena comes in and says, “And to improve the efficiency, I recommend we split up again. Cecil, Neo, you go to Blitz, and Plainsworth and Percy can go to Deep Valley.” Plainsworth says, “Okay. Is there anything in Deep Valley we should worry about?” “Only the locals. They can be… creepy… egh… Anyway, good luck to both of you.”
Just like Chapters 4/5 These next two chapters can be completed in any order. You may start with 7 or 8. Cecil and Neo go to 7, Plainsworth and Percy go to 8. We will be doing 7 first.
Chapter 7: The Storm that Brought Retirement
Cecil and Neo enter Blitz Plains. It is a desert. There’s really nothing plot-related until we almost approach the Blitz Station. Nevada is seen! He says, “You two again?! You really don’t give up do you? Well don’t bother getting the Crystal Star. I’m going to get it first! His spirit WILL be mine!” Cecil says, “Who is ‘he’?” “No one that concerns you. Oh wait. It may. But who cares? By the time I obtain it, you’ll probably already be dead!” “It’s gonna take that long, huh?” “NO! Shut up! There is NO way I’m letting you get it this time! Hmph, where’s Milo when you need him. Whatever, I’ll take you myself!” You beat him. He says, “I am hating this. Very much so. Well, screw this, I’m going to another place to get another Crystal Star, and neither you nor you friends will stop me. HA!” He leaves. What did he mean about “his spirit”? Well, time to take the train to Blitz Arena now.
But there’s one problem: the Blitz Express broke down. Cecil says, “What happened? Where’s the iconic train?” Then, Brock from Rocktrotter’s Research comes in. He says, “Well… da train broke down from a terrible storm. Oh, speakin’ of which, dose clouds above don’t seem too safe. If you’re going to Blitz Arena, either get dere quick, or turn around.” A big wind rushes forth. “Whoa! Dat don’t seem too safe. Looks like da arena is closer den where you came from. You’d better rush to da arena.” Thunder roars and lightning flashes. It starts to rain. “Great. Just great. I just fixed dat bridge. You kids oughtta run!” They run across the stormy trails. We see Barri with his headset on. He’s talking to the news anchor, “Do I really have to report the weather out here? It looks really dangerous, I don’t think I should be out here. No? I can report in the arena? THANK YOU MR. KAYE!” He sees Cecil. He says, “Hey I know you. You tried to destroy Burmud Isle. Well, one event at a time. I’m currently reporting this humongous storm that we are calling Hurricane Rokko. It’s a big one! We should stay inside for shelter. Also, word has it that Rokko is retiring from Blitz!”
You enter Blitz Arena. There are cardboard boxes everywhere. You go up and talk to Rokko. He says, “You two here to watch Blitz? Well, sorry to say this, but I think I’m going to retire. That storm looks really bad, and everyone just feels like leaving. No idea why, but why argue. You may stay here for shelter, but that’s it. Enjoy the arena while it lasts.” He leaves. Anderson, one of the fighters, comes and says, “I can’t believe that guy. I’ve never seen Rokko act like this. Hey, aren’t you a Guardian?” Neo says, “Yes. We’re actually looking for a thing called a Crystal Star.” “Crystal Star? Yeah, I think Rokko has that in his closet. But it’s locked and we need his keys. I am so bummed about this retirement thing. Hey… Y’know what? Me and 4 other fighters still want to fight. How about for old time’s sake, you two fight all 5 of us. Oh, I remember the good old Blitz days. Hey, maybe if you win, I can get Rokko’s keys for you.” Both Cecil and Neo agree. Andy says, “Great! Let’s start with me. I warn you, though. I have been the champion.” You fight him and beat him. He says, “Great! Great. You two are actually quite strong. Maybe I can make another Blitz-esque thing once this one closes down. By the way, try and find the 4 other people. I don’t know where the 4th one is. Well, go and fight and find Sympathief, Screech, and Drooser, and you will be one step closer to the star.” Time to go on a fighting marathon!
All you have to do is explore around the arena and find three more willing fighters. They are Sympathief, Screech, and Drooser. They can be fought in any order, but we’ll start with Sympathief. Near the entrance to the arena, she can be spotted. She says to herself, “Oh, I wish Blitz wasn’t closing down. There are so many things I wanted to do.” She spots you. “Oh! Yes! Wait, no. I don’t want to hurt kids but… are… you two fighters?” You answer yes. She says, “Oh… okay. Can we just have one last fight for nostalgia?” You say yes. You battle her and win. She trots away happily. Only two more to go. You then go find Screech, who is hiding in the basement. He says to himself, “So… cough, ACK they’re closing Blitz? I am ashamed.” He sees you. “SCRAAACK! What… is this? New fighters? Say yes, say yes, because I need to know!” You say yes. He says, “GRAAACK! Wonderful! I loved fighting, and I won’t let Blitz’s closing stop me. Come at me! SCRAWKKK!!!” You beat him and win. He runs away happily. Lastly is Drooser, who is taking a nap in the locker room. You wake him up. He says, “Hmm? Ohh… fighters. So… Blitz closing was a dream? Ahh, fine. I really like fighting, but am too tired to do anything. How about a little wake-up spar?” You battle him and win. He goes back to sleep happily. You now go back to Anderson.
Anderson says, “You fought all three of them? Great, because I found your fifth and final one. Blitzi Fan here is SO eager to fight. Ready Blitzi?” Blitzi says, “Oh, you BETCHA! I am REALLY bummed that Blitz is closing down. I tried making a petition to keep it open, but only five out of 30 people signed it. Anyway, for old time’s sake, READY FOR A BATTLE?! HIYAAAHHH!!!!!!” You fight him, and you win. He says, “Oh man that felt SO good! Thank you SO much!” He leaves. Anderson says, “You fought and beat every willing fighter. Well, time to go steal Rokko’s keys to get the star for you.” Just then, the loudest thunder so far claps. Rokko comes in. He says, “Everyone, get down! I’m shutting of all the power now!” But before he does that, Cecil sees an engraving on one of the bleachers. They recognize them as notes. Rikki plays them, and the storm slows down. The song is the Ballad of Monnelley, and it makes and gets rid of storms. Rokko says, “It… stopped? Is Blitz going to survive?” A voice is heard from the sky. It says, “I wouldn’t be so sure!” IT’S MONNELLEY! He said he’d return, and he has. He looks at Cecil and Neo. He says, “Neo… the newest Guardian. Cecil… the Wrathful Antighost. Friends with those who have freed my spirit from ice. Do you know what they have caused? A STORM LIKE THAT IS WHAT THEY HAVE CAUSED! THEY HAVE UNLEASHED A RAGING MONNELLEY! YOU MUST STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING! STOP ME NOW!” Time for the Chapter 7 boss battle. Normal sized this time. You battle him and win. He says, “My power… I had no idea it was that strong. Thank you. Both of you. By hurting me, you have helped me find my peace. I thank you.” He leaves, and a sunny day happens. Time to get the Crystal Star.
After he leaves, Rokko comes out. He says, “So that’s storm is gone? Well that’s good. For a second, I thought I would’ve had to close down Blitz for good.” Neo says, “Wait, you didn’t want to close it?” “Of course not! I just thought that storm would’ve destroyed our arena.” He goes up to a loudspeaker and makes an announcement, “Attention everyone! Blitz is not closing. I repeat, Blitz is NOT closing!” He comes back to Cecil and Neo, “And Anderson told me you were looking for my Crystal Star. I was going to use it as a grand prize, but I guess you two can have it now. Be careful with it! And please come again to fight. We could always use an extra group.” You leave the arena. Meanwhile, at Deep Valley West…
Chapter 8: Life in the Dark
(A quick note: the chapter name and the characters Zeke and Salem are based off of a story and OCs created by TheFallenAngel X, a good friend of mine. Credits go to her as well)
Plainsworth and Percy enter Deep Valley West. There is also a Deep Valley East, but it’s very hard to get to. Both parts of Deep Valley are very dark and gloomy. Literally and figuratively. You don’t know where to go first, so you enter the town hall. There is no one there except for a strange man. He says, “Here to see Leader Lenora? Tough luck. Both Lenora and Salem have been kidnapped. They’re either dead or alive. We don’t know. We don’t care. We accept our losses anyway. Soon, Deep Valley West will be under new leadership. He calls himself the Crimson Wolf and–” Plainsworth stops him and says, “Whoa, whoa, wait, the Crimson Wolf?! He’s a criminal! He’ll burn down your entire village! Maybe Lenora and Salem are still alive. Where’ve they been kidnapped?” “The tower over in the east. Good luck getting there, though.” “We HAVE to get there. Your entire village could be destroyed!” “Fine, I’ll tell you what: You have 24 hours. Bring back our leaders within that time, and the town belongs to them. And maybe you’ll even get this” He holds up the final Crystal Star. Plainsworth says, “We’re in!” But as soon as they walk out, the Crimson Wolf jumps at them and fights. It’s clear he doesn’t want them to win. You battle him and quickly run away. There’s one thing, though. How do we get to Deep Valley East?
Before they leave, they run into Crow from Chapter 4. Crow says, “Stand down citizens, I, The Great Crow, shall put an end to this Crimson Wolf madness.” Plainsworth says, “A crow against a wolf?” “Well… you get the idea! I’m really tired, also. The other day, I fought these two people who were crazy enough to enter the Temple of Fear.” “Well, thanks for the offer, but we already stopped the Crimson Wolf for now?” “Really? Where are you going now?” “The east?” “DEEP VALLEY EAST?! That place is HOSTILE! It’s not fit for you to go there and–” “We’ve dealt with this before. Just fight us to prove we’re worthy enough already. We’re kinda in a hurry.” “Very well. As you wish.” You battle, win, and leave. You go back to Crystal Temple. Gregory says, “Got the Crystal Star already? That was fast.” Percy says, “No, we have to go all the way to Deep Valley East.” “Oh. Okay. It’s just southwest of the temple.” You leave. You are now in Deep Valley East. It has rogues roaming every corner. And in the distance, oh no. In the distance is Marionette AND Nevada!
Marionette appears. He says, “Oh, it’s you two. Why am I not surprised? Because you two appear EVERYWHERE I AM! It’s bad enough you stopped Dark Heath from destroying Mertzen and Wrath from destroying Burmud. YOU’RE DRIVING ME EVEN MORE INSANE THAN I ALREADY AM! But no matter. I spoke with your uncle…ish. Why do they call him your uncle if he’s a friend? I’m getting off-topic! He promised me your spirits for the Crystal Star, and I will NOT let him down! C’MON!!!” You battle him and win. He walks away. After walking further, we run into Nevada. He says, “Oh, you again. I cannot believe how persistent you are. But, by now, you should know, right?” Plainsworth says, “Know what?” “Your father. He isn’t dead.” “Yes, well… he–” “Then why are you still looking for the Crystal Stars?” “Why are you?” “Oh, ho, nice try. I asked first.” “First is the worst, second is the best.” “Oh shut up, you dumb-dumb face.” “I know you are but what am I?” “You are the most immature person I’ve met!” “I’m rubber, you’re glue. Whatever I say bounces off me and sticks to you.” “OKAY, ENOUGH! Your father is alive, but at the same time, dead.” “Heh, you said ‘but.’” “LISTEN! Once I obtain the Crystal Stars, I will use them to—y’know what? Screw this! Why would I tell you this? You’re going to die anyway! And once that happens, you won’t be able to stop my evil plan to harness Corona’s spirit with the Crystal Stars! And now that I told you that, you will no longer be able to live! HYAHHH!” You battle him and win. He says, “I’ve had enough of this nonsense.” He plays a song using his robot companion’s speakers. “Try escaping the Spirit World now!” He laughs and leaves. You are in some sort of Spirit Valley, yet your bodies are in the real world!
Plainsworth says, “That was weird. He sent us to the Spirit World. Well that’s fine. Rikki, let’s use the Serenade of Bonds.” Rikki is not here. “Rikki?” Meanwhile, in the real world, Rikki seems confused. He sees Plainsworth and Percy’s bodies, but knows they’re not there. He says to himself, “This is weird. Hollow shells of them? Where are they really?” He plays the Serenade to travel to the Spirit World. You play as him for a while until he finds the two. He says, “Plainsworth! Percy! What happened?” Percy says, “I don’t know. Nevada just played a song, and now we’re here.” “Well, you’re also in the real world?” “What?” “Your bodies! C’mon, I’ll show you.” You go back Rikki says, “See these hollow shells? They’re you!” Plainsworth says, “How do we get back in?” “I don’t know, I’ll try to play Nevada’s song again.” He plays it and they’re back in their bodies. Plainsworth says, “Okay, good. Hey, maybe that song could be of use. Try to remember it, Rikki.” “Can do!” You now know a new song! The Deep Valley Shrine is close. There’s not much time! Let’s go!
You run into Nevada again. He says, “YOU CAME BACK! Well, I don’t have time to deal with you. Have fun finding your way around the Deep Valley Shrine! Ahahahahahahah!” And he leaves. The exterior has graffiti, a boarded up entrance, and a “Do not enter” sign. I think we should enter. There’s nothing plot-related until we find the Deep Valleys leaders in a cage. Lenora says, “Uhh, Salem? Are those people friends or enemies?” Salem says, “I don’t know. They can’t be quite as mean as Zeke, though.” Plainsworth says, “We’re here to rescue you two. If we don’t come back soon, the village will be under the reign of a criminal arsonist!” A man comes walking in. His name is Zeke and he says, “Well, well, well. Who is this? Plainwoodsmen? Haven’t seen those kinds of species in a while. So you two are here to save these two? Please. I could easily bite your neck, and you two would be done for.” Plainsworth says, “Can’t I just shine some sunlight on you or something?” “Do your homework, you ignorant polygon. Everyone knows sunlight doesn’t kill vampires. And unfortunately for you, you don’t have a wooden stake. So this’ll be fun.” As he says that, his fangs comes out as he smiles. You fight him and win. Zeke says, “Well. Don’t think I won’t give up that easily–” Nevada comes rushing in. He freezes Zeke with his psychic powers, and says, “Now, where is that Crystal Star?!” Salem says, “Back in the village.” “WHAT?! You have wasted MUCH of my time!” And he runs away. Lenora says, “Thanks for saving us. Let’s go back down to the village. We don’t want that arsonist taking over.”
They are back at the village. Deep Valley East. That’s where Salem rules. He says to Plainsworth, “So… where is this arsonist guy?” Plainsworth says, “He’s over in the west.” “THEN WHY ARE HERE?! We don’t have much time!” They run around the entire place, until we get to Deep Valley West. Lenora rules here. She enters the town hall. “You guys wait here. I have some… things… to settle with these residents trusting an arsonist to run the village.” She runs in. There’s a lot of yelling. She comes back out. “That Crimson Wolf won’t be intruding either of our Deep Valley Villages for a LONG time.” The person there at the beginning comes out. He says, “I guess a deal is a deal then. Here. Take our Amethyst Star. And not a moment too soon. HERE!” YOU NOW HAVE THE EIGHTH AND FINAL CRYSTAL STAR! You leave, but Nevada comes rushing in, out of breath. He says, “Alright… wheeze where… is that… Crystal Star?” Salem says, “We gave it to Plainsworth.” “WHAT?! GAH! Now I have NO Crystal Stars! No matter. There is ONE more way I get obtain his spirit. But it involves planning. I’ll have to talk with Milo and Omega-95 when I get back to Fort Omega. But for now, I will have NOTHING!” Well, I guess we go back to Crystal Temple.
Chapter 7/8 Interlude
Cecil and Neo come back to the temple. Cecil says, “GREEEEEEEEEEEEEGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT’S ABOUT NEVADAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He wants to use the Crystal Star to obtain somebody’s spirit!” Plainsworth and Percy come in. Plainsworth says, “MOM! It’s about Nevada! He’s going to use the Crystal Stars to harness Dad’s spirit!” Serena says, “All of you are giving me a headache! But you have all of the Crystal Stars now, right? That means whatever Nevada is planning to do with them, he can’t anymore. Speaking of which, we have just received intel about Nevada and Corona’s secret bases. If we go there, we can learn about Nevada’s plan as well as how Corona is still alive and why he is with my sister. Anyway, Nevada lives in an underground lair, closest to Klonk Mines. Corona lives in an underwater lair, closest to the Perairan Ocean. I’ll put these Crystal Stars over here for safe keeping. Now, if you want to solve these mysteries, GO! Split up! NOW!” Speaking of mysteries, remember the Antighosts at Rockbell manor and Cecil’s “friend”? It’s best we ask him now.
Plainsworth says to Cecil, “Hey, by the way. Before you leave, you’ve never told me about why there are Antighosts in my house or who this Amy girl is.” Cecil says, “I said don’t worry about it.” “Tell me or I will reclaim my house.” “Okay. If you really want to know. Mynewestplanistolookhumantomakefriendssotheywillgainmytustandicanpossessthemandmaybeturnthemintoantighosts.” “WHAT?!” “I told you don’t worry about it.” “But, this is–” Serena comes out and says, “Hey! Get to work! The sooner, the better!” Before they leave, they see Brett Sato on Central Road. He’s here because he discusses something with Dowty. You tell him your mission, and he joins you. PARTNER #…, wait, let me check… PARTNER #7!!! Now it’s time to part ways and find out the plans of Nevada and Corona
Just like Chapters 4/5 and 7/8 you can do them in any order. Cecil and Neo go to Chapter 9, and Plainsworth and Percy go to Chapter 10. We will start with 9.
Chapter 9: The Underground Fortress
Cecil and Neo enter the Klonk Mines. It’s quite barren and lonely, but there is one person there. His name is Cliff. They ignore him and go down into the shaft of Earth Channel. Cliff spots them and says, “Whoa, hold on there, fellers. What y’all think you’re doin’ goin’ down there?” Cecil says, “Umm… we are… meeting a friend?” “Sorry, but only miners are allowed down there, and you two are just minors.” “We entered the Temple of Fear.” “Well if that’s the case, you must be brave enough. Go on ahead.” They leave. Cliff says to himself, “What a nice pair of boys. What a minute…” He yells back at Cecil and Neo, “Now wait just a diggity-dern minute! How do I know y’all entered the Temple of Fear?” Neo says, “Sir, we don’t have time. We just need to–” He’s distracted by a canary flying by. Cliff says, “What’s a canary doin’ in a mine?” The canary quickly turns into a bat as if no one noticed. “My eyes deceivin’ me? Weren’t that just a bird a second ago?” The bat quickly turns into a human. It’s Cassius! He says, “AHA! You won’t escape me now Plainsw—who are you?” Cecil says, “Hey, aren’t you that Chimera everyone is talking about?” “Yeah, and you’re that Antighost everyone is talking about.” They talk a bit more and fight, and you win. Cliff says, “Antighost? Chimera? Dunno what either those things are, but I saw you fight that guy. Guess you’re strong enough to enter the shaft. Be careful, though! Aw, who am I kiddin’, no one ever listens anyway.” They leave.
You now enter the Earth Channel shaft. There is nothing plot-related until later, when you reach a dead-end. Cecil says, “Great. Now what do we do?” Neo says, “Wait, we have Cooper as our servant, remember?” Cooper comes out and says, “As you wish sirs, I will findeth a way to get past.” He tunnels until he pops up and sees Milo and the robot Omega-95. Milo says, “Okay, 95. Play the song!” 95 says, “Song? Does not compute.” “WHAT?! You know. It’s the… the… THE TECTONIC BLUES! You know. It goes ‘den-den den-den-den-dun” “Humming does not help.” “Fine. Let me just… adjust… HA! Now, play the song!” “Affirmative.” It plays a song, and the dirt causing the dead-end explodes. Rikki takes notes on the notes of the song. Milo sees Cecil and Neo, and says, “GAH!!! Friends of Rockbells?! You’re going to intrude our extremely well-hidden underground fortress? THEN DO SO!!! Because IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII… am going to leave. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!! 95! Get over here and beat them! Return when you are finished! HAVE FUN WITH OUR NICE LITTLE ROBOT! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!” You fight, win, and it malfunctions. It runs back to the fortress. Rikki comes out and says, “That song they played. It made the dirt explode. We could use that.” You learned a new song. Time to trek onward to Fort Omega!
Fort Omega is an enormous fortress. It has guards everywhere. You venture on. Milo comes out. He says to himself as he sees you, “OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOO!!! NEVADA! THEY CAME BACK! THEY TRASHED 95!!! COME QUICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” He runs away. You keep wandering through the fortress, where there are puzzles everywhere. You bump into Nevada. He says, “Well, well, well. Why am I not surprised? First, you stole every Crystal Star, now you broke into my well-guarded fortress?! Why? You want to know something? You want to stop my evil plan? You just want to take pride in the pain you cause on me? Well, I’d expect that last part from Cecil, not so much Neo. Anyway, if you really want to know more… HA! Like I’d tell you! Well, maybe I will… I have nothing to lose. Nothing to gain either. Ehh, I’ll think about it. In the meantime… Milo, I know how long you’ve waited for this. You may now attack them. Feel free to do whatever you want. Quite a shame Plainsworth and Percy couldn’t be here. Oh and Milo, if you do somehow lose, come back to me. Don’t fight back.” Milo says, “Sooooo… I finally have permission. HAHA! YOU ARE GOING TO REGRET INTRUDING OUR FORTRESS!!!” You fight him and win. He runs back, saying, “NEVADA! THESE GUYS ARE DANGEROUS! KEEP OUR PLAN B SAAAAAFE!!!” Time to go over to Nevada.
You keep going onward. Nevada says, “Really? Wow, you guys are persistent. Do you really need to know my plan? What could you gain from it? Well… you may have bested Milo several times, but… sigh fine. There’s no use hiding it any longer. But first: a little background information. Once upon a time, there were four people. They were an adult human named Serena, another adult human named Snake, a child Plainwoodsman named Plainsworth, and an adult Plainwoodsman named Corona. I have been friends with Corona for as long as I can remember. To let you know, Corona and Serena were married at the time. Serena was pregnant. Plainsworth and Snake were also there. However, they were also at the hospital because Corona had a bad sickness, and could not witness the birth of the newborn Percy. Now, I, as a banished Guardian, cannot make anyone immortal. Why was I banished? I released several people’s souls to make them immortal, which messes with the reincarnation cycle. Since I could not make Corona immortal from this disease, I had to do the next best thing: remove his soul. And by the time that happened, baby Percy arrived. But, no one could know about my plan. So Corona pretended he was dead, when in reality, he was both dead and alive. His spirit was reincarnated at the exact time Percy was born. Coincidence? I think not! And, as an evil genius and power-mad Guardian, wanted to obtain the spirit as my own, giving me unlimited strength, which is why I needed the Crystal Stars! But now that you know everything I had planned that I’m willing to tell you,” he looks away and snickers menacingly, “It’s time you quickly forgot!”
He battles you. You attack and attack. He says, “What? That’s the best you can do? I feel nothing. C’mon! Try harder! I DARE you!” You keep attacking. He keeps absorbing it. Finally, after 5 turns, Omega-95 comes rushing in, still malfunctioned. Nevada says, “Wait, no, 95 STAY AWAY!” 95 topples on Nevada. He is now vulnerable. You attack him. You beat him. He says, “GAH! Enough of your antics! I must complete my plan! I need not the distractions of you! MILO! Fix 95, then come with me. We are finding our way over to Shinerise Wilds. COME!” Milo comes running. He drops a pendant that has no relevance to the plot. You follow Nevada. He says, “WHAT?! What could you possibly want? I told you my plan!” Neo says, “Where are you going?” “Shineri—NO! You will not interfere anymore! I am leaving to Shinerise Wilds and you will not stop me! NOW BE OUT OF MY SIGHT OR ELSE!” They all leave. Let’s go over to Plainsworth and Percy’s side.
Chapter 10: Father
You are at the Perairan Ocean coast. Plainsworth says, “Mom said that Dad’s fortress was underwater, right?” Percy says, “Yeah.” “How do we get down there?” “Well… I guess Miko can go down there, but…” “Alright, let’s ask Miko.” Miko comes out. He says, “Don’t worry. I’ll help! I’ll be back in a couple minutes!” He dives down. You play as him for a while. You keep swimming, with Fort Alpha in your sight. He secretly enters. He spies on Corona and Tari’s conversation. Corona says, “So, Tari… is the boat finished yet?” Tari says, “Almost done. If we all work together, we could get it done in a few hours.” “Good. And just in case, as a Plainwoodsman, I can’t swim, so would you mind playing that magical song again?” “Of course.” She plays it, Corona jumps in the water, and says, “It works!” Miko swims back up to the surface. He tells the brothers, “Guys! I didn’t really get a read on their plan, except for the fact that they’re making a boat. Plus, in order to get down there, Rikki needs to play a song.” He plays it on his guitar, then Rikki plays it on his violin. You can now breathe underwater. Let us trek onward!
You enter the calm waters of Perairan Ocean. There is nothing plot-related until we meet up with Corona again. He’s testing out his air shell. He notices them. He seems surprised. He swims away fast. Plainsworth says, “That was Dad! After him!” They run into a squid-like creature. It seems disturbed by you, and it fights you. You beat it and trek onward. You see Fort Alpha. There is a small hole underneath it as an entry. You enter, but people are there. Careful!
Snake sees you. She says, “Wait a minute… Wait a minute! Plainsworth? Percy? It’s really you?!” Plainsworth says, “Aunt Snake? What are you doing here?” “I… uh… well… Long story. So… you’re here? You’ve been trekking the entire country to find us and the Omega group? I assume you have the Crystal Stars?” “Yes.” “And you know your dad is alive?” “Yes.” “But he’s also dead?” “What?” “Oh, you don’t know that? Well, back when your brother was being born, your father was in the emergency room for his disease. Nevada released his soul, so his body and mind are here, but his spirit is somewhere else.” “Really?” “Yeah. He only told me and that Milo person.” “Well, where is he now?” “They just left on their new ship: The Black Mermaid. They’re sailing to find the person with his new soul. He has to protect him or her so Nevada can’t obtain it to become some sort of super Guardian.” “So you’re the good guys?” “Well… no. We’re sort of known as pirates around these parts.” “Pirates?!” “Yeah… sorry about this, but Corona said no trespassers. I’m really sorry guys, but I have to…” You fight her and win. She says, “Y’know, they may still be here. Quick! On the ship before it’s too late!”
You climb onto the Black Mermaid. Tari sees you. She says, “Oh no… Corona! We’ve got visitors!” Corona comes out. He says, “Wait… you two… I saw you back in Spyral Bay, right? You… you’re Plainsworth, right? And you’re his brother? What did Serena decide on calling you?” Percy says, “Percy.” “Percy, huh? Nice ring… WAIT A MINUTE!!! I’M DEAD! YOU DIDN’T SEE ANYTHING! TARI, PLEASE TAKE CARE OF THEM! THEY KNOW TOO MUCH!” Tari says, “So… you two are really his kids? Cute! I’m looking forward to becoming your future step-mom. Oh, what am I saying?! We’re pirates! We don’t converse with the enemies! We steal land! We pillage! We’re not liked! How did this come to be? Fff, I won’t tell you… yet… maybe… I don’t know. ANYWAY! Why are you here? What do you want? Who cares? We’re not allowed to talk to enemies! TAKE THIS!” You fight her and win. “She says, “Fine. Let me show you Corona…”
Tari enters a room. She says, “Hey… sweetie… your children want to talk to you.” Corona was eating something, swallowed it nervously, and widened his eyes. He chokes while saying, “What?! cough Oh… okay. Send them in.” He sweats. Tari comes out and tells the brothers, “Come in guys. Be careful.” Corona says, “You two. Plainsworth and… Percy, is it? Well… here I am! I know it’s not really a good time to break the news, but… I’m alive!” Plainsworth says, “We know.” “Really? Who told you? Was it Snake? I bet it was Snake!” “It was. But what I don’t understand is why Snake is with you, how you met Tari, why you’re pirates, and why Mom didn’t take your last name of Plank.” “Lots of questions. Let me explain. Snake is with me because, as you know, she was your guardian along with Nevada back when I ‘died’ and your mother left. Since Nevada left as you became adults, Snake had nowhere to go. Eventually, she found me, and I told her the whole story about my predicament. I met Tari when Snake and I left to become pirates—well, actually nomads, if you will. We became pirates because Nevada didn’t want ANYONE knowing I was alive, so I changed my identity and sailed the seas where we live on our boats. We then made our amazing Fort Alpha. As for my last name… It isn’t real. I was found by Nevada as a very young child, and he gave me a fake name.” “So… none of this was planned by you?” “I didn’t choose it, no. But… I HAVE AN IDEA! Let’s work together to stop Nevada! Here, I have an idea…”
You two battle to hone your abilities in the case of ever fighting Nevada. You win. Corona says, “Alrighty, then. Now that we’re a team, let me sail you back to Crystal Temple. I, of course, can’t enter, but you can go and tell everyone everything I told you.” While sailing, he gives you a pendant that has no relation to the plot. While sailing, Corona says, “Snake is still in the fort, isn’t she. C’mon guys, we’re taking a U-turn.” You go back and pick up Snake. Corona says to Snake, “What was that place you were telling me about? The place that Nevada may go to find my spirit?” Snake says, “A place called Shinerise Wilds.” “Shinerise Wilds, eh? I’m sure Greg will know something about it.” They dock at a place close to the temple. Corona says, “You two, tell Greg EVERYTHING!”
Chapter 11: Entering the Spirit Afterlife
Cecil and Neo come running in. Cecil says, “GREG! WE KNOW NEVADA’S PLAN!” Greg says, “I don’t like when you run in and shout my name with other news you found. Anyway, what did you–” Plainsworth and Percy come running in. Plainsworth says, “GREG! WE’VE GOT LOTS OF NEWS ABOUT DAD!” Cecil and Plainsworth tell him the news both of them found. Greg says, “Interesting. So… keep the Crystal Stars in safe keeping then. Now… about Shinerise Wilds. I wonder… Serena, come over here for a second.” They go in the corner and talk for a while. Greg comes back and says, “Looks like we need the Crystal Stars after all. Scriptures say that when all Crystal Stars are placed on the altar of a temple for the Guardian of Spirit, the path to Shinerise Wilds will open. Oddly specific, but whatever. Our temple is in fact a Guardian of Spirit church. Let us place the Crystal Stars and… WOW!” A light appears out of nowhere. A voice is heard. It says, “Crystal Stars… It must me urgent. Step into my light I have shone. I will tell you more once you arrive. Make sure all of you are spiritually cleansed.” Everyone looks at Cecil. He says, “What? I’m an Antighost, I can’t control it. Fine. I’ll be careful.” They enter the light. Greg says, “Good luck.”
You are in a strange savanna sort of place. It is sort of like the other Spirit Worlds, but this time, it’s 3D. You venture on and see a weasel standing upright. You walk towards it and it talks! It says, “WOW, your human smell is worse than I expected. Sorry. Nothing against any of you, but the stench of a living being from the real world is just unbearable to us spirits. Anyway… My name is Palumo. I am the Guardian of Spirit. I am responsible for cleansing spirits of the dead and reincarnating them into newborns. I heard you have the Crystal Stars. Must be important. What is your business?” Plainsworthy says, “My father. Corona Plank. His spirit is hunted by an evil banished Guardian named Nevada.” “Nevada? That no-good—GAH! If I could, I would destroy him. But… Corona Plank? Is he dead or alive?” “Yes.” “Yes?” “He is dead and alive.” “Oh… NEVADA’S WORK!!! He is just so—ARGH! Sorry. I know not the person in whom I have reincarnated his spirit. BUT! I ask of you… inside the tower in the horizon is a pendant. If you grab that and keep it away from Nevada, you will be able to locate Corona’s spirit. You will also be able to harness spirit energy. Use it for good, not evil. And one more thing. No—two. One: The Tower of Spirit is full of spirits, so there could be things you can’t see. Play this song on that Guardian-blessed violin your friend has and you will see hidden things. Two: The tower is full of puzzles. To improve your problem-solving skills…” He summons a giant mechanical monster, “… Find a way to destroy Eek, and you may enter the tower. I will make you grow, but you must do the rest.”
You fight the giant tower monster known as Eek. In order to do so, you have to keep bumping into it until it falls in a small lake. It is then vulnerable, and you can give it one big punch. Do that 9 more times, and it’s defeated. Once you do that, Palumo says, “Very well done. Now that you,” he looks at Cecil, “Wait… Antighost… sniff sniff You seem to have spent much time with those purer of soul. I’ll… allow you in the tower. For now. Don’t break anything. Don’t possess any souls. Don’t use any shadows. Be careful. Find the pendant. Keep it from Nevada and Milo. Agreed? Yes? GO!” You enter the tower. It actually has auto-generated rooms, so the map for the area is not there. However, it’s pretty straightforward. Nine rooms arranged 3×3 in every floor. 26 floors for each letter of the alphabet, plus one room on the roof. Keep on going through the rooms. Eventually you get up to the 16th floor, where the Ps are. Milo is scrounging around. He sees you, but you don’t see him. He runs away. You hear Palumo’s voice, “Forgot to tell you. The pendant should be on the roof. And if you happen to see anyone, IGNORE THEM! It’s most likely the mind of someone who hasn’t been sent to the afterlife yet. Keep going.” You enter the roof, only to find that there is NO PENDANT!
You head back to the wilds. You tell Palumo, “We’ve got bad news.” Palumo responds with, “So do I, unfortunately. You go first.” “The pendant was nowhere to be found.” “Well… that’s what I was going to tell you. Unfortunately Milo the Vile from the real world (whose spirit smells especially impure) came down with the pendant in his hands. He works for Nevada, right?” “Yeah.” “We have to get it back then!” Milo appears along with Nevada. Nevada says, “Well, well, well. All four of you? Haven’t seen that. Cecil, Neo, Plainsworth, Percy, nice reunion. Oh, and by the way, thanks a lot. You saved a lot of trouble for me having to find the pendant. CORONA’S SPIRIT IS ALL MINE! 95! Load this into your data banks under [C:/corona_plank_spirit_tracker]. And Milo, take care of these four. And now that they’re no longer crucial to our mission, you now have permission. Kill. Maim. Destroy. Make sure they will not catch up with me. GWAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!” Milo says, “Well… you heard the man. DON’T STAND IN HIS WAY!” The battle starts. Palumo comes in and says, “His spirit is impure. I will try to weaken him.” Every five turns, Milo’s attack and defense lowers by 20%. Once you beat him, he says, “No, no, NO! NEVADA GET YOUR BUTT BACK HERE! PICK ME UP, THESE GUYS ARE MONSTERS!!!” Palumo says, “Well, they got away with the pendant. But don’t worry. Go back to Crystal Temple. I will contact you if I find any information. Now go, stop Nevada!”
Chapter 11 Interlude
They return to the Crystal Temple. Greg says, “Oh guys, it was awful! Milo, 95, and Nevada came out from the portal with the Pendant of Spirit in their hands!” Palumo’s voice is heard. He says, “Plainsowrth, Percy, Cecil, and Neo. Listen up. I have found research on Corona’s spirit. It is located somewhere in… an area of farmland somewhere in this region of land.” Greg says, “In other words: Malikat Ranch?” “I guess. And you must be Father Gregory.” “I am. It is an honor to speak with the Guardian of Spirit.” “No time for meet-and-greets. We must stop Nevada before it’s too late!” Serena comes in and says, “Well, that’s not the last of them. Look out that window.” The group is outside discussing where Corona’s spirit is. Nevada says, “95, any leads yet on where the new spirit is?” “Affirmative. Close proximity to here.” “You are so specific, 95. Well, let’s search.” Serena says, “How far away is Malikat Ranch?” Greg says, “Not very. Only about one or two miles away.” “Well, let’s go! We must lose no time.” Cecil comes out. He says in his very creepy Antighost voice, “Oh… I think we can afford to waste a little time… now that you’ve helped me…” He smiles menacingly.
“Heh, heh, heh. Ha, ha, ha! HA! HA HA!!! Wow, you three are just as stupid as you were back in Burmud! I mean, how did you even have the brain cells to trust me?! I AM WRATH! That means, ‘no-trusty-trusty’! But I owe you guys a HUGE thanks. ‘Cause without your help, I would have never found such a strong spirit like Corona’s, I would have never been able to pollute the Spirit World with my Antighost essence, and I would have never found the location of Corona’s new spirit. Congratulate yourselves! Make it quick, because you are no longer needed. Goodbye!” He fights you and you win. He runs away to Malikat Ranch. Greg says, “Well, that was unexpected.” Serena says, “An Antighost betraying us is unexpected? Well we now have two problems on our hands. We now HAVE to get to Malikat Ranch AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! AND THE SOONEST IS NOW! LET’S GO!” Everyone leaves.
Chapter 12: The Spirit of Corona Plank
This entire chapter is going to be colored grey. Catch up with the rest of the plot and spoilers, then you may highlight this.
Cecil is running. You control him and only him for a while. He says to himself, “People are idiots. Which is why I LOVE this generation! Now, who is Plank’s spirit reincarnated in?” He runs into Envy, who happens to be strolling around. She says, “Oh no! I thought we left you back in Burmud! Stay back! I don’t want a repeat of when I first met you!” “Relax Envy, it’s me.” “Which is exactly why I’m shooing you away.” “Well I don’t care about your problems. Have you sensed any spirit about… 18 years old?” Even if I knew, why would I tell you?” “Why WOULDN’T you tell me?” “WRATH, BE QUIET! I don’t want to put up with you any longer! I’m gonna face my fears and take you out once and for all!” He fights her alone. You beat her and say, “Bah! I don’t have time for this. Time to find that spirit!” Meanwhile, Nevada comes rushing into the ranch. “Malikat Ranch, huh? Seems a little anticlimactic if you ask me,” he sees Cecil, “Oh, what are YOU doing here?” Cecil says, “Same reason you’re here. But listen, I was never with them to begin with. I had the same idea you had all along.” “Really?” “Of course. As an Antighost, I can tell how old this spirit is.” “Really? All right, rookie. You have the job. Now how old?” “About 18 years.” “18? Wait. Now it all makes sense,” he turns to Milo, “Milo. Who was born right when Corona ‘died’?” Milo says, “You’re not suggesting–” “I am… PERCY!”
Nevada says, “Thank you Antighost. You’re not needed anymore. Milo, 95, escort him out of my sights. And take this pendant with you. We have no more use for it.” Cecil feels betrayed. Now he knows how the others felt. Cut back to Plainsworth, Percy, and Neo. Plainsworth says, “Alright. We may have lost Cecil, but that’s fine. We can find the spirit ourselves. They run into a young girl around Percy’s age. She says, “Oh, sorry about that. I wasn’t looking where I was going. Welcome to Malikat Ranch, by the way. My name is Hope. Nice to meet you.” Percy seems… attracted to her. He says, “Uh… nice to meet you too. I’m Percy, this is my brother Plainsworth and my friend Neo. Anyway, I’d love to chat, but we’re on the lookout for someone. He’s a tall man with a dark purple suit and dark hair. He’s also with a giant robot and a psychopath known as Milo the Vile.” “What do they want?” “Nothing… leave it to us. Just tell us if you see them.” “Uhh… Percy…” “What?” “I see them.” Nevada says, “Heh, heh, heh. Don’t think we don’t know about your little ‘secret’. We know who Corona’s spirit is in. 95! Please retrieve him. And take the other one out. We don’t need him.” 95 says “Affirmative,” and fights the both of them. You beat him, but that’s not the end. Milo jumps onto Plainsworth and holds him down. He says to 95 and Nevada, “Guys! Quickly! Grab him!” They grab Percy and leave. Leaving only Plainsworth and Neo…
Hope says, “What was that all about?” Plainsworth says, “Nevada, Guardian of Wisdom. He kidnapped my brother. He thought that Corona’s spirit was inside him.” “Corona’s spirit?” “My dad. His spirit was released by Nevada and now he wants to obtain it to become some sort of Omega Guardian.” “We have to stop him then!” “But how? All we have are you, me, and Neo.” Neo says, “Guys, have you forgotten that I’m a Guardian?” Plainsworth says, “Of course! Fight fire with fire! Let’s find Nevada and get back my brother! And… is he really our father reincarnation?” Meanwhile, Nevada is with Percy. He’s tied up in rope. He says, “Let me go! What are you going to do with me?” Nevada says, “Oh… I won’t be doing anything to you… yet. For now, I’d like you to meet my friend. He’s an Antighost. He’s a shadow creature. He is incredibly creepy.” “Cecil turned over to your side?! Now I know why he betrayed us.” “Well, yes and no. He helped us, but we soon kicked him out. We sent him over to a place he will never return: the Spirit World!” “Then who were you talking about?” Marionette appears out of the shadows, “Hello Percival!” Percy says, “OH NO! Marionette!” “Yes, that’s right. It’s me. Remember back in Puppetshade Village? And Antighost Lair? And most recently, Deep Valley? BECAUSE I DO! And now I have even more of an incentive to capture your spirit! Say ‘ta-ta’!” “Oh, I hope Plainsworth and Neo come here soon…”
Plainsworth and Neo come there. Quite soon. Nevada says, “YOU TWO?! That’s it! I’ve had enough of this! I am extracting your brother’s spirit and you won’t stop me! In fact… MARIONETTE! Take Percy’s spirit to the Spirit World. I will take care of these two.” Neo cowers in fear, and Nevada gets shocked with electricity. He says, “Neo… STOP GETTING SCARED! You’re causing me pain. Now without further ado, PREPARE TO DIE!” You fight him and win. He says, “I’ve had enough of these antics. Be out of my sight.” He sends you to Spirit Ranch. It lacks color because Marionette extracted all the spirit from it. Plainsworth and Neo keep going on, wandering. Cecil is also there, lost. He says to himself, “Percy? Of course not. It makes no sense. What are the chances of your spirit being reincarnated into a relative? Quite slim. But Greg said it was in Malikat Ranch and Corona died 18 years ago. So… any 18-year-olds who live in Malikat Ranch. According to my calculations, only a family of 5 lives in it. One is way too young, three are way too old. That means the middle child has to be Corona’s spirit. Now I just need to find him or her.” Marionette pops up. He says, “What’cha talking about, Wrath?” “Gluttony… I should’ve known you were somehow behind this.” “Yes. And thanks to my amazing eavesdropping skills, I learned that Percy is NOT our guy. IT’S THE GIRL! Now go! You’re not needed. But just in case…” You fight him and win. He says, “Well, that’s too bad. Guess I’ll tell Nevada now. Have fun in this colorless world. Ta-ta!” He goes away. Cecil says, “Oh no… I gotta tell Plainsworth!”
Cecil runs back and bumps into Plainsworth and Neo. Cecil says, “Wait… you two are here? Nevada got to you two, too?” Neo says, “Yeah… he sent us here because he was ‘tired of our antics’. Now that I speak of it, I remember him sending Percy here too. We have to save him so Nevada can’t obtain his spirit!” “That’s just the thing! Percy isn’t Corona. I found out that is a completely slim chance. Plus, he wasn’t at Malikat Ranch at the time we found out.” Plainsworth says, “Well who is it? Do you know?” “YES! Well… I don’t know her name. She’s the only resident here who’s Percy’s age.” “Hope! We gotta save her! But first, we need to find Percy and get out of here.” Just then, they run into SLASHER! He says that he, too, was sent here Nevada because he was interested in aiding him. Nevada told him he needs no more assistance. Slasher then says, “But now that you two are here… TIME TO TEST OUT MY LATEST CREATION!” He jumps into a giant robot and tries to once and for all get rid of Plainsworth. But since they’re in the Spirit World, Plainsworth grows and has another giant battle. The final one! Not quite as epic as the one in the Great Chapter, but it’s okay. You beat it and Slasher runs away and is never seen again. Just then, Percy runs into the three. He says, “Plainsworth? Cecil? Neo? I’m so glad I found you! Nevada wants to remove my spirit!” All three of the others all yell, “We know!” Plainsworth then says, “But Nevada has the wrong person. You’re not Corona!” “What? Then who is it?” “Hope!” Percy remembers Hope and remembers that he has a slight crush on her. He says, “We have to save her!” Just after they talk about that, Nevada comes in. He says, “Save whom? And did I hear that Percy is the WRONG person? I HAVE NEVER BEEN WRONG! No matter… I’ll find this Hope person and I’ll–” Marionette appears. He says, “Sir, the last of Spirit Ranch’s spirit is here for you.” “Thank you, Marionette.” He absorbs the spirit and… OH NO!!!
Nevada is yelling in the amount of power he is receiving. Everything is turning blander and blander. All that’s left are Plainsworth, Percy, Neo, Cecil, their partners, Nevada’s henchmen, and Nevada’s eyes, hair, mouth, and hands, but Nevada’s parts are now bigger. Nevada’s spiritual remains says, “Wow! This power is amazing. But not quite enough. All I need is Hope. That sounded way too optimistic than what I was going for. BUT I’M NOT DONE YET! Once I exit this Spirit Ranch and find Hope, nothing can stop me! I need Hope! WHY DID THEY NAME HER THAT! I sound too optimistic. But I don’t want anyone distracting from my plan to find Hope. So that means I will have to get rid of all four of you once and for all!” You fight him in a completely white room. All of the spirit has been extracted from Spirit Ranch. In order to damage him, you need to take out both of his hands, and then attack. The hands will revive after 3 turns. Once you beat him, he leaves the Spirit World and return to the real world. The group exits Spirit Ranch and returns to a colorless Malikat Ranch. Plainsworth says, “Oh no. Nevada—well, his remains—have already extracted most of the ranch’s spirit. We have to save Hope or else there’s no telling WHAT Nevada could do!” They see her running into the barn, terrified. The group chases after her, trying to save her. They enter the barn and find her. Percy says to her, “Hope! Are you all right?! Don’t worry, Nevada isn’t going to harness your spirit now.” Hope slowly turns around to Percy and says, “Oh Percy… I ALREADY DID!”
Nevada has already absorbed Hope’s/Corona’s spirit. He says, “IDIOTS! IT IS TOO LATE NOW! You thought you will save her just in time and that I will have to fight you to see who wins. NOT THIS TIME! Look at me! I’m powerful! I’m mega! I’M… a girl? Well, I’ll get used to this body soon enough. NOW IS THE TIME YOU FACE THE FACT THAT ONE DAY, YOU WILL LOSE! AND THAT DAY IS TODAY! HYAHH!!” Final battle time! In the most apocalyptic barn house ever. You keep fighting. He is just straight-up pulverizing you. After you’re down to your last few health points, he says, “HA! Look at yourselves! YOU’RE WEAK! Busted up! Dented! Mangled! Prepare to say goodbye forever–” He is interrupted when a shine of bright light flashes on him, “GAH! WHO DID THAT?!” Palumo appears. He says, “Not today, Nevada, you putrid excuse for a Guardian.” “PALUMO! I should’ve known you were allied with them!” “Yes, and I will aid them,” he turns to the group, “I will restore your wounds. Now fight with courage!” “HOLD UP!” says a voice. Greg rushes in and says, “You’ll need these, too.” He throws them the Crystal Stars. Serena comes rushing in and says, “Plainsworth! Percy! As your mother, I ORDER YOU TO STOP HIM AT ONCE!” Dowty and Whoozitt come in to encourage them. As well as King Spyral, the Azure Waves, Crow, the Weather Spirits, Rokko, his fighters, and everyone else! They all encourage the four. Nevada says, “ENOUGH! I WILL KILL ALL OF YOU! But let’s start with your heroes so you can have someone to mourn over.” This starts the actual final battle. With Palumo’s help, you can actually take him down. Just as he’s down to his last few health points, he says, “Must… muster… enough… strength… to protect…” He makes a shield impervious to all attacks. Just then, Cecil’s friend, Amy, comes in. She says, “Cecil, if you don’t make it out alive, I’ve always wanted to say I LOVE YOU!” Cecil then bursts with spiritual and Antighostly energy. Enough to cause an entire explosion to wipe out Nevada and separate him from Hope. He coughs. He then becomes nothing but a spirit and floats off. Everyone cheers! We saved the Spirit of Corona Plank!
Hope slowly gets up off the ground. She says, “Guys… Guys?! I’M ALIVE! Thank you SOOOOO much! That could’ve turned out as a disaster! Thank you!” She hugs all four in the group. Greg comes over and says, “I knew I could count on you guys. You really outdid yourselves.” Serena says, “Plainsworth, you did it! You actually did it! Great job. I tolerate you slightly more now.” Everyone groans that Serena and Plainsworth still don’t like each other. They all pressure them to hug. Serena says, “Oh, what the heck.” And finally hugs him. Greg says, “Y’know. An accomplishment like this deserves something rewarding. How about a visit to Moonview Heights? Tickets are on me!” Everyone likes the idea and follows, except Percy and Hope, who stay back for a while. Percy says, “I’ll catch up to you later.” And that is the end of our story.
But there’s more!
Chapter S: Triptych
Once you have done all you must do, you may now head over to the lovely amusement park/small town of Moonview Heights, owned and managed by the eccentric Zak Hacky. Before you arrive, you see Crow and fight him just for fun. You arrive. Zak comes and greets you. He says, “Ahh, you two. And two others? Plainsworth, Percy… and… children. Okeydoke. Welcome to Moonview Heights. I recommend riding the Sky Piercer, my FAVORITE rollercoaster. See you later. Until then, have fun!” The four leave. Zak says to himself, “Now that I think of it, I could use some help by those two and the other two,” He turns back and says, “Guys, wait!” But they’re already gone. They walk up to one of the rides. They see Blaine, the attendant, toying with the machinery. He says, “What’s wrong with this thing? It was working a second ago!” Plainsworth says, “Need some help?” “Thanks, but I can handle this. In fact… Edward! We need you for a second.” A young boy about 15 shows up. He’s working as a Moonview Heights intern as a mechanic. He says, “What’s wrong?” Blaine says, “The ride. It’s not working.” “Just a sec.” He does some stuff and it’s fixed. Ed says, “I think the problem is this purple ooze. Looks like Spring-Cola. Wasn’t that banned a while ago? I keep forgetting why.” A monster of poisonous fumes emits from the machine. Ed says, “Oh yeah…” Plainsworth and the group volunteer to fight. They take down the Miasma. Zak comes back and says, “GUYS! puff Glad I found huff you. Sorry. A little out of breath. Anyway, I need a little help with something. Meet me back in my house, okay? Okay.” Okay, guess we’re helping Zak now.
They all meet at Zak’s house. He says, “Glad you’re here. Please take note on the unconscious man on the bed in the middle of the room.” Plainsworth says, “I was just about to ask about that.” “Yes. This man’s name is Trip. He was my siblings and my babysitter back when we were younger. Boy, was he amazing. He was like family. Still is, by the way. But, something happened today when he woke up. He seemed terrified and then he just fell on the floor and didn’t wake up since. We hired a doctor, but we also need your help.” Nocturne appears out of nowhere. He says, “Alright, let’s take a look at this guy!” Plainsworth says, “What’s HE doing here?!” “Hello, Plainsworth. I’ve changed. Trust me.” Zak says, “Also my two other triplet siblings should be coming over shortly. Please be nice to them.” Just then, two people enter the house. One says, “So where’s Trip! We must protect him!” Zak says, “Nice to see you too, Kevin…” “Yeah, it’s been a while Zak. It’s been, what, 2 days?” The other sibling says, “That’s actually a long time for Zak to not visit us.” Zak says, “Glad to see you haven’t changed either, Liza. Okay, now that we’re all here, we have to make sure Trip lives.” Nocturne says, “I think I have an idea. Maybe a few people could travel into his mind and see the problem. With me, something like that is possible.” “Okay…” says Zak, “Umm… I VOLUNTEER!!! …Plainsworth and his group to do it.” They reluctantly agree and soon travel into Trip’s dreams. Zak talks to Kevin and Liza. He says, “So uh… how’s the fashion business?” Kevin says, “You would know, considering you go to our place almost every day.” “So… you think Trip will be alright?” “With Nocturne and four people I don’t know? Quite unlikely.”
Kevin says, “Now that I think of it, let Liza and me help them too. You never know.” Nocturne sends them in. Edward appears. He says, “Mr. Hacky, what’s going on?” Zak says, “The best idea for a movie ever. We’re travelling into our Mr. Trip’s mind to find out what’s wrong with his head.” “Can I come?” “WHY NOT! Why not EVERYONE?! We’ll all go, it’ll be a big party! Yes you may. Nocturne!” He sends him in as well. Here we are in Triptych Dreams. Plainsworth says, “It’s awfully quiet in here.” Nocturne’s voice is heard, “You’re not deep enough yet. Keep trekking on, you’ll find Trip’s deep mind.” You keep going forward. You see a holographic-like young boy. It must be Trip’s memory. He says, “HIYA! I’m Trip! Nice to meet’cha!” Plainsworth says, “Trip? But… wait… maybe a memory? Okay… Hello Trip, I’m Plainsworth. Have you felt any sort of weirdness in your mind lately?” “Only the weirdness of happiness! Other than that, no.” “Okay… Guess we’ll have to head deeper.” They then run into Liza, Kevin, and Edward. Kevin says, “Travelling into my babysitter’s mind. Quite weird. Oh, hello people. You must be those ‘amazing people’ that Zak was telling me about. Plainsworth, right? Well, we’re all in this together. Edward really wants to help as well. Now c’mon! Let’s find our way through this weird place and get out as soon as we can.” Ed is now another partner! They also fight a giant boss that is not plot-related on the way. Eventually, they run into what looks like the young Trip. However, looks way less happy than younger Trip.
You talk to him. He says, “Ugh… what do you want?” Plainsworth says, “You must be Trip?” “I used to… now I’m just a blank void. Why are you here?” “We want to investigate any weirdness happening in your mind.” “Life is weird. I don’t understand anything. Why are we here? Of all people to be in control of, why me?” “Wow, you’re like a constant downer, huh? Anyway, have you felt any weird dreams or thoughts?” “All I think about is darkness.” “Are you sure you’re the same Trip?” “Are you referring to my younger self? Fff, that me is no longer. Look outside. The weather is dark and gloomy. Like my soul.” “Okay… I guess we’ll just leave now–” “STAY HERE! Turn around. You’re in my dreams, you’re under my rule. Stay there. Now prepare to face what I also think about 24/7. Pain, misery, and death.” You fight the downer, and quickly get away from him. Eventually you find the Trip you’re looking for. He says, “H-hello? I don’t recall anyone like you in my memories.” Percy says, “We were sent in to try and clear out any crazy thoughts.” “S-sent in?! B-by whom?!” “Nocturne?” “Describe him.” “Dark ghost that looks like the starry night.” “HIM! He has been appearing in my dreams and thoughts for two weeks now! He wants to harness my subconscious, and it’s really hard for him to do that if I’m awake.” “That’s why you’re unconscious in the real world?” “Yes, and—oh no… Do you hear that?” “What?” “I sense Nocturne’s presence! He’s coming! WAKE ME UP NOW!” “How?!” “I don’t know just… FIGHT ME!” “What?” “Don’t ask questions, he looks like he’s five minutes away. Wake me up by fighting me now!” You fight him. You have to do it within 5 minutes, though. You win, and you all appear in the real world.
Nocturne appears and says, “NO! It was foolproof! Whatever. PLAINSWORTH! NEO! PERCY! CECIL! That is the final straw! If I can’t harness Trip’s dreams, YOU WILL HAVE TO DO! C’mere!” You fight him. This time, he can actually be damaged. He may make you fall asleep for a turn. You beat him and he dissolves into nothing. Trip wakes up and says, “Well, that was… exciting. Thank you all.” Zak says, “Glad to see you’re okay.” Kevin says, “Great that your thoughts weren’t eaten.” Zak turns around to the group and says, “Oh, wow. How to reward you guys? Maybe free ride admission for the rest of the year? Money? An item that will help you locate secrets? HEY! Maybe all of the above!” They get the stuff and leave back to Mertzen Town. That may be the end of the story, but let’s not forget sidequests!

Battle System
Battles are turn-based. Jumping exerts all of your ATK on one enemy that doesn’t have fire or spikes. Hammering exerts 1/3 of your ATK on all enemies on ground. It also flips over certain enemies such as Porcus and Rockas. Punching exerts half your ATK on the enemy in front and the one behind it as long as the one in front doesn’t have spikes. Shadow Sneaks attack every enemy on the ground.
Command Icons
From left to right, below is the order of command icons for each player
Plainsworth: Tactics, Items, Punch, Jump, Hammer, Special Attacks
Percy: Study, Items, Punch, Jump, Hammer, Partner Attacks
Cecil: Tactics, Items, Shadow Sneak, Jump, Antighostly Attacks, Special Attacks
Neo: Study, Items, Shadow Sneak, Jump, Guardian Attacks, Partner Attacks
GIANT: Jump, Hammer, Punch, Item
Perfect Hits
Perfect hits are things you can do while attacking to make more damage on enemies. When jumping you must press A right before landing on an enemy. When hammering, you must press B right when the hammer goes over your head. When punching or using ancient hand techniques, you must press Z/ZL right when your hands go right behind you. When Shadow Sneaking, press B right before you become a shadow.
Dodging
As always, when the enemy is attacking, you must press A to jump, B to hammer, or Z/ZL to block. Jumping is most useful when non-spiked enemies or non-physical attacks ram you. Hammer is useful when enemies or projectiles go above you. Blocking is best when enemies are too tall to jump over or coming up in your front.
Giant Battles
Giant battles only happen in the Spirit World or other spiritually linked places. It is one-player only. Instead of a turn-based battle, you have to walk around on a map and fight the enemy. You and the enemy will be moving around A target is in front of you on the ground at all times. If the target is red, it means you can hit something. Jumping is usual. Hammering can damage everything within a small radius. Punching allows you to dash and hit the enemy on its side or front. As you move around the map, there will be items scattered around. Run into them to pick them up. There will be an item counter on the bottom right. To use an item, press C/ZR. The counter will decrease by one every time you use an item. You can hold up to 10.
Elements and Traits
Elements and Traits are mechanics that may turn the tide in battle. Every enemy and playable characters has 1-2 elements and 1 trait. Elements can be used to do more damage on an enemy based on its element and traits can be used to do special effects if you happen to have low HP. Elements also have unique effects that you can use whenever you want. You must have that element part of you though. Below is a link to a list of elements, traits, effects, and advantages.

Trivia
- This game came out the same year as the presidential debates for 2016. Similarly, a new chancellor has been elected for Mertzen.
- This is the first game since short chapters debuted in which it is Chapter 1.5 and not chapter 2.5.
- This is the first game since The Seven Sources to have Chapter 5 as an ice level instead of a sky level.
- There is technically no Chapter boss for Chapter 3, since any boss could be fought in any order.
- Chapters 1, 2, 4, 5, and 8 are based off the stages of grief: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance. Mertzen Town denies the fact that Whoozitt is not chancellor or that Dowty is; Jelli and Spyral are in a huge feud; Holly is bargaining Neo and Cecil to bring Podleaf back; Spirit feels gloomy in MerryJolly, and Polaris is in hysterics because his wedding is ruined; Deep Valley has too much acceptance for losing Lenora and Salem.
- This is the first game to have a choose-your-path chapter, as you can decide to go Chapter 4 or 5 first, as well as 7/8 and 9/10. 4, 7, and 9 are traversed by Cecil and Neo, while 5, 8, and 10 are traversed by Plainsworth and Percy.
