Etymology
Jackie is named after Jackie, the pet tarantula of Willow, the Flipline character she was based on. Tanner is based on ténèbres, French for "darkness."
Development
In 2017, Adam DeVoix designed the character Jackie as part of a DeviantArt trend called Flipline NextGen, an fan-fiction alternate universe where characters of the Flipline Studios universe (Papa's Pizzeria, Freezeria, etc.) are much older and have had children. Both Jackie and her brother Mark were designed as one of the two children of the Flipline character Willow. In addition to posting art of them on his DeviantArt page, Adam also posted one story script involving the two of them and their mother, where the bookstore they worked at was going to get shut down by Perry Marshall, Jr., the new mayor of Frostfield (a town in the Flipline universe).
Since then, Adam had not used Jackie or Mark for his projects, until 2025, where he spun a random wheel of old and current characters to draw and redesign, which landed on Jackie and Mark. He used a wooden mannequin to pose the two of them in the aforementioned image, drawing Jackie first and then Mark. He kept nearly the entirety of their designs the same, as he thought that, even 8 years before, he outdid himself with Jackie's shirt, tattoo, and spider-web skirt.
Profiles
Jackie is one of Willow's children. She is a friendly girl who has a soft spot for anything dark and/or creepy, and has pet bats, terrariums of insects, and cages of spiders in her room. A lot of people consider her as weird and creepy, and try to avoid her. She doesn't mind, since she has her two good friends, Anastasia and Vivian. They can see beyond her weirdness and see she's actually really nice. When she's by herself she enjoys sketching, reading, and writing. But her older brother Mark always seems to be there to make fun of whatever she does. If that happens, she runs over to the Biscotti Bookstore for her own alone time. She spends so much time there, she's gotten a job there. Good news to her is that when there's any old or unwanted books, she gets to take them home.
