Etymology
Mark is named for being a rhyme with dark. Tanner is based on ténèbres, French for "darkness."
Development
In 2017, Adam DeVoix designed the character Mark as part of a DeviantArt trend called Flipline NextGen, an fan-fiction alternate universe where characters of the Flipline Studios universe (Papa's Pizzeria, Freezeria, etc.) are much older and have had children. Both Mark and his sister Jackie were designed as one of the two children of the Flipline character Willow. In addition to posting art of them on his DeviantArt page, Adam also posted one story script involving the two of them and their mother, where the bookstore they worked at was going to get shut down by Perry Marshall, Jr., the new mayor of Frostfield (a town in the Flipline universe).
Since then, Adam had not used Jackie or Mark for his projects, until 2025, where he spun a random wheel of old and current characters to draw and redesign, which landed on Jackie and Mark. He used a wooden mannequin to pose the two of them in the aforementioned image, drawing Jackie first and then Mark. He kept nearly the entirety of their designs the same.
Profiles
Mark is another one of Willow's children. He is a lot more jerky and mean than his sister, Jackie. He always tries to stay isolated from any person. He usually just sits in his room with the lights off and the blinds closed, either reading horror or mystery books, watching horror movies or shows, or on the computer looking at other things in the horror genre. The only time he goes outside is if he's hanging out with his one and only friend, Brittany. The two go back a long way, and became friends because of one distinctive quality they share. They hate people. But he also needs to go outside for his job, which is also at the Biscotti Bookstore. He has quite a fun time there, mostly because he gets to pick on his sister.
